Open Seat for SI on 1/7 Have Boat
I have an opened seat for a SI hunt on Saturday (1/7). I have a boat (18 ft) with Avery Quick Blind, decoys, and dog but do not have experience with SI. Myself and Headhunter are committed to giving the ducks heck on Saturday and are looking for a third, preferably somebody with experience but will entertain all interested.
I am posting the open slot but Headhunter is the one that knows all the details as he has Hunted SI and is familiar with the show, I am just looking for experience. PM me and Headhunter if you are interested.
Thanks
John

Re: Open Seat for SI on 1/7 Have Boat
Ok guys, like John said, we have an open seat for Saturday to hunt SI from a boat. For those of you who know DevlinCrakler and his dog Moby, you are in for a treat. Great boat, great dog, and damm he is a way better shot than I am. I know SI, but have never hunted it from a boat. It would be cool for someone to step up who has hunted it from a boat and knows the process and way around the island via the boat.
Any takers?

Yes, Jim, you have a wife and kid. I'd tell you their names but have forgotten them along with the names of my spouse and kids (boys I think). I would love to go, but haven't hunted SI from a boat before.
Good luck!

Hey fellas, so how did you end up doing in the high water? Where or what GENERAL area did you go to??

It could have been better in terms of the hunting...but the company was good
We hunted Mud #11
We picked chip #79, but the group that had chip #1 was told that they probally needed a boat or dog. Ron got on the radio and told the line that was the deal...and it scared off the guy with chip #13...who ended up giving it to me. So to the guy with chip #13...I wish we had room in the boat and I want to thank you for your generosity! You paid your karma bucket bigtime!

Re: Open Seat for SI on 1/7 Have Boat
I also enjoyed the company and came away with a great story about my one-year-old lab. Here is goes.
We were in the boat for most of the morning waiting for the ducks to show up; unfortunately they did not. Anyways my dog, Moby, who does not like to hunt from the boat because he can not see what is going on was getting real restless with all the shooting going on around him and no retrieving. It was his first time to SI so he is not use to all the shooting. About 11:00 I decided to get out of the boat and let him take care of his business and work off some energy. He did his business and started running around, when I saw him messing with something on the other side of a tree by the water. As there were a few old goose feathers on the ground in that area I figured he found some dead carcass so I called him back. He did not come, but continue messing with what I could not see on the other side of the tree. I called again still he did not come, then again when he came around the tree proud as can be with a live hen Shovler. I first though that it was some old dead cripple but when I saw it blinking realized it was a fresh bird. I took the bird and examined it for wound and could not find a pellet mark or any other wounds, in fact when I had it by the neck it started to beat its wings and thrash about.
My guess is that Moby said that if we were not going to shoot any ducks that day he would have to get them himself. So even though I did not get to shoot any ducks that day I did not come home empty handed. And I have a good story to tell about Moby’s first year hunting.

Re: Open Seat for SI on 1/7 Have Boat
My lab did that to me once. After seeing me miss a dozen doves out near Buena Vista, he busted off into the bushes and came back with a grouse, still flapping like mad. I picked the bird and served my pup baked grouse over fried rice. I couldn't bring myself to eat any

Re: Open Seat for SI on 1/7 Have Boat
My old dog darn near got me in trouble at SI picking up birds. We were on stillman and I got a limmit we walked out and on the way he picked up 5 cripples. 5 I turned them in at the check station and all was good but I was more than a bit nervious to turn them in.

Beat by the dog
Yep...thanks again for the hunt John.
It is so much better to be with good guys when the hunt is slow.
That is one great dog you have. I can't believe he got more ducks than us...that makes for a great story...(for him).
Tell him I will try and get him something to retrieve next time so that he doesn't have to take matters into his own paws!!!
