Default Pope and Young rules

My grandfather shot a 7x7 Muley in 1957 with a Drake recurve bow. I had been hanging on to the horns since his death in 1990. I finally took the time to contact a taxidermist. An IFISH sponser, Memories taxidermy owned by Mike Downing. When Mike saw these horns he said that is a book animal. Had them measured at the sportsman show and the non-typical score was 211. 1st. in show (so far) 11th in state, 110 nationally. My question is: Hunter is deceased, Will this pose any problems with my grandfather being entered into the book? If it hadn't of been for Mike Downing I would not have had a clue about these horns. Thanks Mike!!!!! Pictures can be posted once Mike is done doing his magic.

I sure would like to see a photo of those antlers. That was a very nice animal.

The horns are at the booth just around the corner from the wall of horns display is at. Either Mike, the taxidermist, or I can post a picture when they are done. They are impressive for a mule deer lots of mass.

Good question Sledder. I don't think Pope & Young will accept the animal from someone other than the individual that took it. However, I'm pretty sure Boone & Crocket will accept it. If I'm not mistaken, they'll even take entries of antlers found.

Go to the Pope & Young site and talk w/them. Pope & Young

I don't know about P & Y, but with Boone & Crockett if you can produce an affadavit from someone who was with the hunter when the animal was killed, and if the affadavit states the animal was killed within B&C's fair chase criteria, (during the season, no radios, no spotlights, no fenced game preserves, etc.) it can go into the book.
