Lab Barking when traveling in pickup

I've always hauled my 4 year old Chocolate lab in the back up my pickup. When he was a pup he nevered barked. Now he barks whenever we are in town. As soon as you hit the open road he will settle down. Is there anything I can do to break this habit? It's getting old fast, not to mention embarrassing!

You could try a bark collar.

Our Weims do the same thing they get excited becasue they know that we are going hiking. Eventualy they calm down. We do have bark collars for them in the kennel but we have not used them in the truck they calm down in a little while. Does your lab do it the whole time while he is in your truck? It is a little embassing :blush: but then again one every knows we are coming.

If not a bark collar how about one of those rubber "kongs" filled with treats and/or peanut butter to keep him occupied?

My 3 yr old Chocolate will do the same thing sometimes. Not all the time fortunately. I find that if I open the rear slider of my truck and canopy both, he usually stopps unless he see's another dog or something unusual.

Not very safe in the pickup. I see a number of Dogs do that. They look neurotic.

Why don't you put it in a kennel in the back of the truck. It's a security thing.

We have travel kennels in the back of the truck in the canopy and they still bark for a little while but they settle down after awhile or just get horse :grin:

Put your dog in one of those plastic crates. I would think that would cut down on the barking significantly.
