A remington 597 LS HB 22lr for sage rats, The old Marlin tube fed, still works great  . I just want a Rem Semi auto. Does anyone have this gun or shot it, how do you like it?
I had a 10/22 and did not like it, I,m a Remington guy. Thanks in advance....Ross

Get it in .17 and your be glad you did. Every thing I have read about that gun is positive.

Re: Remington 597?
I have the regular M597 and the trigger pull must be 5 pounds?. Brownells has a target hammer that is supposed to reduce trigger pull to about 2 1/2 pounds. for $ 36.00 I think.

Re: Remington 597?
Cost of the .17 is high right now but you will forget about that once you shoot one. IMHO

Re: Remington 597?
Fish Hawg,
Do you reload?
Wow...for the price of that ammo (.17 RF mag), you could look around, pick up a Ruger 10/77 in .22 Hornet (I think they made some in that cal.) and load your own Centerfire ammo a LOT cheaper!
Just a thought?!! .17 RF shooters...Flame on!

Re: Remington 597?
No I don't reload :depressed: ; I want to start. I never thought about the .17 but might check into it. why not just get a 22 mag?....Ross

Re: Remington 597?
It shoots O.K but I think the accuracy suffers because of the trigger pull, I think it is a good rifle, has not jammed, but the trigger is holding back accuracy. It may be more than 5 pounds , it is that stiff.

Re: Remington 597?
Ross,
The .17HMR beats the .22mag in velocity and trajectory. In most loads the .17 beats the .22mag by at least 300-400fps,while beating other .22mag load by more.

Re: Remington 597?
I have one of the regulars 597s as well. I would put it in the same ballpark as the Ruger 10/22. Overall I have been very happy with mine.
+'s
Good groups
very ergonomic
fun and easy to shoot
one of the best .22 you can get for the money (IMHO)
-'s
Not the best trigger as others have commented(but not the worst either)
after market parts not as common as the 10/22
If you are going to shoot a lot of rounds - 22lr is way more economical than 22 mag or .17 which go for $6 a box of 50 and up - 22lr is 1/10 the cost. But if you are hunting and only shooting a few rounds - then .17 may be OK and give better range. (the 597 comes in all three calibers)

Re: Remington 597?
I also have a regular 597, but I must have gotten a lemon. Right from the start I couldn't adjust the factory sight over far enough to be able to use it. Then if I shoot hollow points, I can't even make it through a clip without it jamming. I have a friend though with the same gun and his shoots fine, with no problems. I think I just got a dud.
