Default Isn\'t Duck Hunting Closed??

I hope someone can help me out! I have waited patiently to hunt coyotes on a Saturday or Sunday on certain properties until AFTER Duck Season ended. Well, what's going on? :depressed:

We coyote hunted today out West of Portland, after the Jan 25th closure of the season, I thought, and there were duck hunters shooting everywhere!! It sounded like Iraq! :depressed:

I really am confused because not being a waterfowl hunter, I relied on the ODFW and Ifish to clue me on the closure. Both said Jan 25th. But instead it was BLASTORAMA all morning!

Can someone set me straight so I don't feel foolish to my varmint hunting friends?

Thanks,

A red faced RUSTY!

Should'a been closed, but isn't the special goose permit season still going? And sometimes the state/fed biologists get a hold of hunters to harvest ducks for study reasons.

Whatever they were shooting, they were really doing it up right! It was non-stop from 8:00AM until we gave up that area at 10:00 AM.

What a bummer! Ruined an entire morning!

Hmm...... 8:00 a.m. is a little early to shoot clay targets. I'm still on my second cup of coffee then. One thing for sure. If they were duck hunting, they shouldn't have had any pressure from other hunters because I do believe the Feds shut it down after the 25th.

Maybe they were crow hunting. Today was the last day of the season.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my inquiry regarding Duck Hunting on Jan 31st!!

I still don't know what these guys were shooting, but it is not supposed to be Ducks or Geese!

It was non-stop shotgunning and it seemed to be coming from various ponds around the Banks area west of Portland. It obviously made coyote hunting impossible, and was quite a nuisance!

Hopefully it will stop by next weekend or I'll try to track down the source of the shooting and find out what they are doing. (I'm not saying they were shooting illegally, I just want to know when they are going to be out there so I don't have to blow out my lungs trying to coax in a yote.)

Me thinks you have to have a predation permit to legally take crows out of season. During the season, October 1, 2003 thru January 31, 2004, you have to have a valid hunting license and have said "yes" to crow hunting on the HIP questionaire. That's my understanding.

I haven't seen enough ducks in our part of the valley to have non-stop anything, except complaining about the lack of non-stop anything. I hope the powers to be will take note that we are getting no birds until season is over, we have thousands of acres of ryegrass around and haven't seen enough to drag out the shotgun. Whats up????????
