Favorite .22 Ammo?
I like the yellow jackets the best . They are accurate, and do the most damage to the sage rats. I Took a close head shot at a coyote; He never new what droped him in his tracks. I think it is the smallest deadliest mushroom. So what is your favorite ammo for sage rats?....Ross

Re: Favorite .22 Ammo?
American Eagle. They're based on a russian design and in my bull-barreled Marlin, very accurate. And I can get them for $8 a brick.
Hope we have a mild February; nothing funner than catchin'em on top of the snow.

Re: Favorite .22 Ammo?
Federal American Eagle .38gr copper plated hollow point 22 ammo. That stuff is sweet out of my Ruger 10/22s!
Think out of all the thousands of American Eagle ammo that I have shot, I've only had 3 rounds no fire. That's 3 rounds out of about 20K+!
I also like the .40gr CCI lead 22lr for shooting out of one of my single shots. For some reason that gun just shoots that stuff just sweet!
I used to shoot the Remington golden bullets all the time but I found (out of my gun) that every 4th shot would stray off. I don't know why but they could not hold a good group. First 3 shoots would be looking real good then that 4th one would just make me sick. But its a good cheap round to just shoot as fast as you can
Fish Hawg
Where do you get them Yellow Jackets at? I had like a 1000 rounds of that stuff a long time ago and wow...really messed up them poor ol wabbits
I've been looking for some since then but only found them one place and they wanted 10 bucks for 500 of them.
Also, anyone ever put them CCI 22 Stingers on paper? I think they are a 30gr bullet.

Re: Favorite .22 Ammo?
I can't remember were I got them, I had 3 or 4 cases a few years ago. Now I'm running real low adn was wonderingwhat everyone else likes. I shot the CCI Velocitors and got some good groups with them, also with the mini mags
I will buy a box of, Federal American Eagle .38gr copper plated hollow points a try them out. Tanks for the info....Ross

Re: Favorite .22 Ammo?
I use lots of ammo on sage rats, so anything that's hollow-point and on sale I buy.

In my opinion (which you could say isn't worth much) CCI Stingers are the way to go.

Re: Favorite .22 Ammo?
we have been using remington but are having trouble with jamming [the empty case dosnt come completely out of breech] it acts like the rim isn't big enough and the ejector slips off.
this happens on all four of my 10/22 scattermatics.
guns are stripped down, cleaned and oiled every 250 rnds.
any body else have this problem?????????/

Your problem is most likely that you have an over sized ejector.
Check to see if the ejector will hold a round by itself...most the time the ejector does not even touch the rim. What it sounds is the ejector will not support a round on its own.
What you gotta do to fix that is take it to a gunsmith or do what I did and pull the ejector out, clamp part of it down, heat it up and softly tap on it with a hammer making it a little smaller.
Theirs more to it then what I listed...way to much...I'm not gonna go there. But if you really wanna check out what I'm talking about, I can send you a link to a shooting forum that had this tip there.

Re: Favorite .22 Ammo?
Kingfisher. I put the CCI stinger's up aginst the remmington golden bullet, and remington target rounds (green box , non hollow point). I have a marlin 7000 with the 20" bull barrel and a 3x9x40 leupold VXII. At 50 yards the remington target rounds won hands down, no surprise there. But in my rifle the golden bullets and the stingers were about the same. At 100 yds the golden bullet won the contest, and I think that is because the Stinger is a lighter round @ a much higher velocity. Just my .02

Re: Favorite .22 Ammo?
Bi Mart had shells on sale and was out, go fiqure but was substituting with American Eagle usually don't shoot because they come in a brick of 400 instead of 500, but was only 6.99 so got a couple, tired them out and was really impressed with the group. But like a lot of us, its still what ever is on sale. Just my 22 cents........or not....Ray

Re: Favorite .22 Ammo?
thanks kingfisher.
I did what the shooting forum said and it seems to have fixed it.
incidently searching the forums i found a research article on accuracy of 22 shells.
ELY came out on top by a large margin, competition shooteres use them excusivly.
I never heard of them has anybody else??????

Re: Favorite .22 Ammo?
tip i got 4 ejectors 4 springs &4 pins
I took the butt plates off and drilled a 1/2 inch hole about 2 inches deep in each gun stock and put one set in each gun stock
another tip is dont get wd 40 around your shells as it will cause sporatic power,
take a dozen shells put them in cup and spray them down with w d 40 let them set for a day and try them.,have a ram rod handy as wd 40 will completly neutralise the powder.
