I cant think of a better way to start off the new year than waterfowl Hunting.
I had Eric meet me at the boat ramp sunday morning and we headed out to one of my honey holes and boy was the wind blowing and the water was extremly high for low tide. My Wife went with us. after a few hours of getting dretched on there wasnt anything flying except geese and we both managed to scratch one each they were some big sob. The water was getting freaking high fast and it was still 3 hours to high tide. After a quick scouting trip as I was pulling up in the boat the motor died and I couldnt get it started again...ugh... so we started packing up early before it was even close to high tide. The only choice we had to get out of there was for me to walk the boat along the shoreline in chest deep water over to the highway to a spot that was low enough that we could back the boat trailer into even though it was 2 miles away. Called the sisters boyfriend and he came and picked me up so I could go get the truck and trailer. A wadder belt would have came in handy...Ugh
But the day was just starting we went up to my moms house and her field was flooded with duck and geese every where so after draining all the water out of my wadders and some dry socks we tried to put the sneek on the geese that were there but they busted my arse. Eric got to see the two bull elk that hang out at my moms on his way out for the sneek. But the ducks wanted in there in a bad way so they came and they came. We didnt take any dogs with us because we wanted to go light in the boat etc well I wish we would have because them ducks were dropping and vanishing when they hit the ground???? Joe I busted them two spoonie just for you. I know we were lacking a litte green but boy its the coolest thing to see 30 wigeon cupped and bucking the wind and then drop into the deks and after a few gun jams and a few dud shells we managed to get a few birds buy 2pm
