Re: Free outboard, what would you pick?
Need to clarify whether kicker or main motor... Even if free, nothing less than gold standard of kickers - Yami T8.

Re: Free outboard, what would you pick?
Can't speak for everyone else but I've owned five Yami's and all of them have been absolutely bullet proof.
I've got numerous friends with Mercs. They have been OK but tempermental. A couple have imploded.

Re: Free outboard, what would you pick?
I've owned a bunch of ancient engines of various lineages, two late model Mercs (both 40s and both did very well) and now two Yamahas (115 and 8). I've been totally impressed with the Y's. One item I noticed two years ago in the back country of British Columbia, where the majority of people had to boat in from the islands to work -- nearly everyone ran 60 hp Yamahas on their every-day boats. I thought that was a pretty good recommendation, given that this area had virtually no roads and the boat was pretty much taking the place of the family car. Larry

Re: Free outboard, what would you pick?
I've got the F60 and the T8 on my boat and they have been great - while I don't have that many hours on them yet they do what I want them to do when I want it

Re: Free outboard, what would you pick?
I like my T8 yamaha's features, but after the problems that I have had with the lower cylinder it is going to take me some time to trust it again.

This is one of those questions we start asking ourselves as kids... any car, any boat, etc...
Well, after 30+ years of pondering this question, there is only one answer...
I would get the outboard I could most easily sell for more than any other... then sell it and buy what I need.

Yeah, but there is more to it than just the power head. Just because it's the same head, doesn't mean it's the same kicker.

I got the 90...it's incredible how far OB's have come in recent years...this motor is light years ahead of the rest IMHO....funny also how little we in the NW know about Tohatsu/Nissan...they are outstanding motors and extremely popular elsewhere

The little Merc's are Tohatsu - who also makes Nissan Outboards
