Default Last day Duck blowout

The hunting was okay in the L & C, but when we were setting up for the second time my dog started a painful howl. He hooked his hind leg in a tree root as he was going over a 4 foot sheer bank and was hanging by it. That blew his knee out (ligaments, no breaks) and needs reconstructive surgery, poor guy. What is amazing is no sign of pain after initial shock. On the way to the boat ramp he was still up on point with only three legs excited to get at any duck flying off the bow of the boat and he still tries to do everything like nothing happen.

Now what to look for in care or recommendations, anyone with similar experience of what they did or would have done different and were there any problems that came up over the years. The quotes I am getting are $2300 to $3000 and 6 to 8 weeks rehab, he is 6 years old and I feel he is worth it.

Sell a boat and fix the dog. Don't tell the dog your plans or he won't let you.

I got a lot more in my dog then that ($10k) and I would do it again. Mine blew out his shoulder when he was a pup and then was hit by a car and broke his pelvis. If they can make a recovery then I feel it’s my duty to give them the chance. Tyson is not 100 percent but don’t tell him that. Plus his 90 percent is more then most dogs 100 IMHO might be a touch bias but I don’t think so.

Take him to the best vet you can. Find a specialist that way you will be sure its done correctly the first time. Make sure you rest him for as long as the Vet says as if he is anything like mine and he sounds that way then he will try and go before he is ready. And you cant tell if he is hurting himself until its too late..

Good luck
