Antelope Hunt choice for a trophy
I have 9 preference points for a hunt. I have been putting in for East Beatys Butte but is there a better chance for a big buck with the antelope makeing a rebound.I would like your input in my hunt choice.

I also have 9 points, I wanted to hunt Hart Mt. But I think thats a forever dangling carrot that keeps moving. I would be interested to see what other areas are fairly productive I would like to hunt 2006 for them.

I don't think, even with 9 points you are going to draw anything.

Re: Antelope Hunt choice for a trophy
BrianMaguire you dont seem to optimistic. Just fishing for the best unit to put in for to take a trophy. Ive been seeing and hearing of lopes showing up all across eastern ore. in good numbers and places that people have not seen them in a decade or more.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade but the reality is that with 9 points you will be at home in Aug. There is always luck! I think any unit from Ochoco south and east a nice buck can be had.

Re: Antelope Hunt choice for a trophy
How about a vote for S. Wagontire? Based on the Oregon record book I think the most trophy antelope come from Harney County so this might be a thought?? I might have the points to draw this one - if I'm lucky.

Re: Antelope Hunt choice for a trophy
Go to this web site and you will see what Brian means you can see the odds of drawing in one of the units. Look at my odds I have 11 points I have been trying for Hart Mountain last year there were 229 guys with 10 points and 157 guys with 11 points 34 guys with 12 points. So my odds are pretty low unless we get lucky.

GO S.WAGONTIRE. I HUNTED THERE LAST YEAR AND SHOT THE FIRST ONE I THOUGHT WAS BIG. BIG MISTAKE - WALL HANGER - WALL HANGER-WALL HANGER AND I STILL THINK ABOUT HIM. IT WAS A FANTASTIC HUNT AND LOTS OF LOPES AND I MEAN BIG ONES!!!!!!

Re: Antelope Hunt choice for a trophy
My brother puts together a Oregon tag draw percentage book. He's sold them at a local archery shop in the past. I have his 2006 book & in checking it out, it looks like this for East Beatys Butte (470A)
this is the 75% pool
12 points = 100%
11 points = 67%
10 points = 0%
25% pool + 1%
It looks like the good hunts will take 10 plus points to have a chance.

Re: Antelope Hunt choice for a trophy
I'm hoping on drawing a tag and finding a good location to take a good lope without alot competition. The honey hole the glory mine of big bucks. After driving through SE Oregon last fall and hearing about improved conditions. I saw alot of nice bucks last year. No real trophys, but alot of nice solid stock of bucks. I really do thank you all for your input and advice, hope to see you around in the field some day.Or River.
