Default Mod.30 Remington

My mothers neighbor flagged me down this morning on my way to go fishing she wanted to show me a rifle that belonged to her late husband, and wanted to know if I would be interested in it.It is a Remington Model 30 chambered in 30Rem.the rifle seems to be in good shape and for the price,$100,I probably can't go wrong.I have been doing a few searches trying to find some info on this particular rifle, but there dosen't seem to be much out there.I found it was manufactured from 1924-1940 and and just over 22,000 produced, but I can't remember which site I found that on there was also a mention of a carbine model, which I believe this is.I know that the cartrage is no longer produced but I have found many sights with reload data and the rifle comes with two boxes of shells.I was just wondering if anybody knew anything about this model/calaber or had any other feed back on it,it would be appreciated. When I mentioned it to my brother he told me to pick it up,I think he already has plans of borowing it to start my niece out deer hunting with.Any links with info on this rifle could be helpful too.Oh,and thank you for listening to my rambling on,I belive I will go pick it up tomarow anyhow  .

Tonto - here's what the Remington Website says about that gun. Remington Model 30

If it works good, I'm sure $100 is a good deal, and I'll bet you can find ammo.

Good Luck.

thank you KT that is the one I looked at earlier, but I couldn't find my way back  I was just wondering how many of those 22,800 were 30R Carbines....once again thank you I don't believe I could get hurt in the deal even if I just tucked it away in the cabnet...but being such a light weight rifle and a smaller cartridge my niece would probably be able to handle it just fine.

Tonto,

I'm not positive on this, but if I recall correctly .30 Rem is just a rimless version of .30 W.C.F. (30-30), which means you can probably use 30-30 reloading dies to load the ammo...just need a different shell holder. I think it uses the exact same loading data (might be able to handle even hotter loads in the bolt action rifle, depending on the design?), and in the bolt gun you can load them with pointed bullets.

I'm not sure WHAT you might be able to use as a "parent cartridge" to form .30 Rem. out of.

Also I'll bet that from time to time Remington will manufacture some small runs of brass, just to resupply the existing rifles out there. There might even be some current supplies available.

Check Buffalo Arms Co. for unique/obsolete cartridge components.

Yep! Buffalo Arms has .30 Rem. @$.35, which is the same price they get for .30-06 brass. So, that's not bad at all. Unless you shoot really a lot, 20-40 rounds of new brass, on top of the two boxes that come with the rifle oughta hold you about forever!
