Default YAHOO! - He did it - FINALLY!

here is the story...

We have a tradition in my family that when the sons turn 12 they get their first firearm. I gave my oldest son (Sparelink) my 30.06 for his 12th birthday- 3 years ago (he had his choice of my rifle or shotgun). But he was not allowed to even touch it until he completed his hunter ed course (which I would take with him). BUT, I would not sign him up for the course. He had to make the call, get the info and sign us up. I felt that if he wanted to play big man, act like it and do the work.

Anyway, today he calls me at work to tell me we are signed up for classes starting in March Great! now I can go hunting again. I wasn't too excited the last couple of years since he had not got the job done. Now I am dreaming of sitting around the campfire telling tales or gutting his first deer or elk or, or , or...

But as I type, I now realize how much this is going to cost me  Now I need a new rifle, scope, GPS, etc, etc. Guess he better get a job too to pay for all this

I also just realized my youngest will be 12 in May. Gotta buy 2 guns,

Anyone know of a volume discounter?

Also, can anyone direct me to orienteering classes? I have taught the boys most stuff but as with most kids today it might actually take if coming from someone else

Be safe!

My oldest boy got his first deer two years ago - what a rush for both of us!!!!! I have to brag here too - he is a safer hunter than most adults I've seen in the field. I am very proud of this guy. I have to say the same about my younger son as well - although he has not yet gone deer hunting, he loves birding and does extremely well also.

Good times ahead, SC!!

Great job... I did the same with my daughters, even if they did'nt hunt I have guns around the house and required it of them to have the training...It has been great my oldest is;nt to into it(which is fine ) but my youngest (now 22yrs.)is, and it is great to have your family out there we have good times togeather.as for the orienteering, odfw used to give some classes but I do'nt think they do anymore, but they should be able to point you in the right direction. good luck

Way to go. I'ts the only way that our way of life will continue, and that is passing it along. I can't wait till my sons are old enough to hunt with me.
