Coast Guard searches for fisherman near Tillamook Bay

TILLAMOOK, Ore. -- The Coast Guard is searching for a shrimp fisherman in Tillamook Bay who has been missing since Thursday night.


The missing fisherman tried to swim to shore with another man when their boat drifted off Thursday while they were out on the mud flats.


The second man was able to swim to shore near Bay City and was taken to a hospital with severe hypothermia. Neither man was wearing a life jacket.


The Coast Guard searched for the missing fisherman until 1:30 a.m., then had to call off the search because of driving rain and winds.


At dawn on Friday, a Jayhawk helicopter from Astoria left to search for the man, as well as various boats from both the Coast Guard, the Tillamook County Sheriff's Department and local boaters. Crews are also checking the shoreline from Bay City to Garibaldi.

Prayers go out to his family. This makes my decision to go crabbing this weekend much easier..staying him and cuddling with the wife and puppy.
