Default IAMS update.

I recieved a response to my email:

Thank you for helping us to understand the issue regarding Iams involvement with
Petfest America. We were not aware of legislative issues with the sporting dog
community when we decided to get involved with this event -- we were focusing on
reaching pet owners.

Also, I want to let you know up front that though this response will be
consistent with the response sent to others who have contacted us, we are taking
note of each individual's comments. Our response is the same primarily because
the reasons for contacting us have been consistent from person to person, and we
are doing our best to acknowledge these contacts as quickly and efficiently as
possible.

The Iams Company is sponsoring Petfest America with the HSUS to educate and
entertain pet owners throughout the United States. These six events will help
bring pet care and nutrition information, as well as the Iams Superdogs, a
world-class agility group, to thousands of pet lovers throughout the country.

In addition to Petfest, we are present at a variety of events throughout the
year in an effort to educate and entertain concerned pet owners on the
incredible difference superior nutrition can make in their pets - helping them
live long, healthy lives. Some of these events include the ESPN Great Outdoor
Games, the National Bird Dog Championship, the Eukanuba Beagle
Championship--plus various national specialties, agility events, humane society
walks and various dog and cat shows. We work with a wide variety of
pet-interested groups to try to get our message to every dog and cat owner so
they can understand the positive role that nutrition can play in their pets'
lives.

Again, I appreciate you contacting us and giving us an opportunity to respond -
and hope this gives you an understanding of our position on involvement in
events, in general. In the end, our reason for being is focused on the dog and
cat. We try to reach their owners where they are most receptive to hearing our
message....from sporting to non-profit events.

Sincerely,
Tina
Iams Consumer Care, North America

The Iams Company is proud of having over 50 years of nutritional excellence,
dedicated to enhancing the well-being of dogs and cats by providing world-class
quality foods and pet care products. Iams and Eukanuba are registered trademarks

So what do you think?

Hogwash - they are selling out. All about $$. As if the only way to "get the word out" is to partner with the HSUS. I'm done with them. Bought my first bag of ProPlan yesterday.

Send 'em back an email that says something like:

***************************
Thank you for your response. It is nice knowing a large company like IAMS still values personal contact with its customers.

We also understand your association with HSUS and what you hope to gain from such a partnership. Please be aware, however, that we, as owners of hunting dogs, want nothing to do with their organization or the companies that align themselves with their anti-hunting philosophy. Sadly, at this point, IAMS is one of those companies.

Our dogs will do fine. Being caring, concerned owners, we will find products that satisfy our pups' nutritional needs, and we will continue to care for them with the same commitment we always have. After all, they are our family and our friends out in the field. And we will not ask you to rethink your association with HSUS. We will simply say goodbye.

Sincerely,
********************************

I will send this as a reply when I receive their email.

Someone told me just this week that IAMS makes Costco's dog food. The lamb and rice... and I forget the brand.
I'd like to know if this is true.
Does anyone have any info on this?

I've never tried kirkland. Both the IAMS and some specialty stuff in a white bag(??) I got from the vets gave my dog really bad gas . After a couple of months I gave up and went to plain old Purina. She likes it better than the IAMS and it doesn't give her gas . I've heard it's not the best food available, I just can't live with her if she's eating the "good" stuff .

Norm, funny you should mention that. My dog has the same problem with IAMS. In fact, she will drive me out of the house - even worse than my teenage boys. I'm hoping that changing to ProPlan will alleviate some of her flatulance issue.

DIAMOND! I love it (so does my lab ) and its not too expensive.

The pro trainer we work with recommended their Premium Adult food. It cost about 19-20 bucks for a 40# bag. I can't complain about energy levels, coat or anything else since switching last spring.

i don't think the Iams corporation cares if they support ant-hunting groups such as peta or the humane society. how much of their revenue comes from hunters. they are a dog food company. not a hunting dog food company.
