Now for the story.
This is the largest (antlered) blacktail that I have taken, bow or rifle.
I shot him Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend.
He was spotted with a doe on a landing by one of our party, so I proceeded to sneak back up the skid road towards them. The landing was elevated enough that I could not see anything as I approached (20yds.). I had an arrow nocked and my release on the string, just in case. All of sudden the doe charges to my left and sidehill above me and this buck is not exactly behind her, he is charging straight at me  When I see the antlers and head crest the landing I start to draw, by the time I anchor and put the pins on him he is off the landing and on MY trail. My 20yd pin settles on the nice white target below his chin and I release the arrow. I hear a CRACK and thud as he hits the snow 30 feet away, never moves another muscle
The 85gr wasp broke his neck
He is 5 on the palmated (right) side and 6 on the other with two more scorable points broken off. His left G2 should have another point with the other three, freshly broken off at the web, behind the point with tiny sticker. The other was on the inside of the left main beam between the eye guard and main fork.He had been a few scrapes, nose torn, 4" healed scar on right shoulder and 3" hole in his right rear ham.
Sorry no pics. in the snow, no digital camera in the truck.

That is an awesome buck. Did he come from the coast area? Sure don't see many bucks with those genes running around here in the canyon!

tag-a-long,

The buck came from the McKenzie area, the guys I hunted with haven't seen many bucks like that in that area either. Going to be $400 poorer now
