Hoochie Fishermen - What do you think?
Anyone run theses?
Scotty Butterfly:
Fitted to a Hoochie. Cut the head of hoochie and insert the Butterfly into opening. Creates swimming action without flasher. Secret to success, use lightest tackle possible and long leader line.

I saw these the other day. Can't have too much stuff in the tackle box.

Yeah they work but I still prefer a Flasher/Hoochie combo.

Re: Hoochie Fishermen - What do you think?
Looks like they should have the action of an Apex.

Re: Hoochie Fishermen - What do you think?
Agreed. Bet it would fish nicely behind a flasher or dodger as well. Perhaps a bit more random action.
I'd better pick up a dozen or so.

Re: Hoochie Fishermen - What do you think?
...I will troll by the boat later today and get the "hot Hoochie" box and post pics of my top ten + some special leader secrets I do.....
BTW, If i were using this lip on hootchie w flasher, I would use a 5' leader - like a spoon/flasher setup.

Re: Hoochie Fishermen - What do you think?
Depends on what you want to catch. Silvers like action. So they may work well for them.
Kings usually bite longer leaders(less action)much better than short.
Why eliminate the dodger? It is there to attract the fish more than give a hootchie action. Especially on kings....they rush the movement and flash of the dodgers, and then they see the hootchies once they are in close.
Hootchies alone will not pull fish from 20-30' away. Dodgers will.
Make sense?

Re: Hoochie Fishermen - What do you think?
I would like to give them a try. I was just down at Fishermen's and they hadn't heard of them. Where do you get them? I've always been a sucker for new tackle.

Re: Hoochie Fishermen - What do you think?
Thanks for the information. While fishing the West side of Vancouver island this year, the locals used a lot of hoochies,(bait is expensive). The colors they used were different than I normally use down here. Where we were at they liked white, black and white(cop car), and especially a purple. When we came back and fished down here with those colors, the purple seemed to work pretty well.

The biggest item in purple this past season was called Purple Haze made by Angelo's.

Also known as the "Hoochie devil", rigged and in a package. I think I have seen them at Englund, but I wont shop there anymore.

Re: Hoochie Fishermen - What do you think?
Greek, I'm really curious why you won't shop at Englunds, its one of my favorite stores to browse. John Englund has done me favors in his store, simply because he's a fine person. They're building a new store at the west end port docks in Astoria, I hope they put in a ramp also, that area sure could use it.

Re: Hoochie Fishermen - What do you think?
I will not shop at Englund Marine because of John Englunds push for increasing the steelhead bi-catch on the Columbia river. If you do not know what this is all about, email me and we can discuss it. Englund has also shown his distaste for guides( four seaters ) and sport anglers alike. He has an agenda with the commission he sits on and it appears to side with the gillnetters. My oppinion is that he does not belong on the commission for it is an obvious conflict of interest.

Re: Hoochie Fishermen - What do you think?
Thanks for answering, there is not many people I have more respect for than John. The steelhead bi-catch may be a mis-interpretation of his opinions, we can discuss this elsewhere. I respect your opinion for not shopping there.
I've been around fishing and John for a long time. I value his opinion on fish runs, I trust this mans immense character, generosity, and honesty. I may not agree with some of his actions, but who agrees with everyone? You'll see John at the sportsmens show visiting other peoples booths with a big warm grin, affecting people around him in a positive way, he'll introduce himself as John, not campaigning for anyone or anything. :smile:Please PM me if you want to discuss this further.
sincerely,
Mike

Re: Hoochie Fishermen - What do you think?
After Mr. Englund's failure to recuse himself from the decision to expand the commercial net fishery in the Columbia yesterday at the Commission hearing, I don't know how any sportsman can support his business. Take a few minutes to read the lively discussion on the main board to see details of this very unfortunate process.

Re: Hoochie Fishermen - What do you think?
I for one will not buy the replacement icom handheld VHS radio, if and when it ever needs to be replaced, from Englunds.
Ever.
And yes, I did buy my current handheld VHS radio from his Astoria store.
Oops, sorry for the hijack continuation...

Re: Hoochie Fishermen - What do you think?
Pete, I take John Englund the way he treats me, he treats me with courtesy and respect, it's easy to treat him the same.
I've stated in earlier posts about my opinions of commercial fishing for salmon. Until a better means of harvesting fish is implemented, we should work with the commercial fishermen to solve mutual issues on the decline of salmon. Sea Lions, birds, Dam mortality, diminshing feed in the ocean are issues we could be working on together rather than fighting over the percentages of the last of the fish. Developing a better type of commercial harvest with the commercial fishermen would be easier and quicker if we worked with them. I will do my small part by not fishing for springers, I'll fish for something else.
I've enjoyed many parts of my short time with ifish, lots of tips to new fishing, and especially the humor. I do not want to jeopardize my standing with ifish by posting inflammatory opinions.
We've probably all experienced rudeness on the water or at the boat ramps, sometimes I'd rather cross the CR bar than face the Hammond boat launch on a busy day. Not all the people at the ramp are rude, it just takes a few, then there is confusion. My point is, John Englund is the type of person, if he were at the ramp, to greet and help people using the ramp. People of his character and generosity help make this a better place. My heart warms when I think of all the good he has done, my family is included, he made a nice donation to my fathers memorial at the Astoria Maritime museum. I disagree with John in some areas, I think a moratorium should be implemented until we have a better plan to recover the fish runs, or emphasize other fish.
When I was a child and saw some kids being mean or bullying someone injustly I would befriend the victim. I feel this is a similar situation. Being new to ifish I did not know John was so unpopular, the question I had for Chris V. was sincere, we had an hour long rewarding conversation. I prefer communicating in person there is less chance of my opinions being misunderstood.
I've been with John in candid stressful times, and witnessed him being a fine example of humanity. It appears there is people that hate him for his stand on salmon, he's human perhaps he has reacted to some of this hatred, I don't know. I take him for what I've seen, not what I've heard. Peace to all.
I've found Englunds to be a pleasant shopping experience and I will continue to shop there. If someone feels like not trading there, I can respect ther opinions. If this classifies me as not being a sportsman, I can live with that.
If someone wants further discussions I would prefer not to discuss it in this forum, please PM.......Mike
