Default GI Joes Abu Torno 3003M

Joes has teh Abu Torno 3003M Baitcast reel on sale for $37.88. It says that the normal price is 109.99. Is this a good reel? I have a feeling it isn't, since the sale price is so low. Anyone have one? How are they?

A Google search finds various models listing from $150-239, with lots of sales at 50% off. Auction sites have that model at bids of $24 to $59 (new in box).

Weird.

I looked at some of those sites also, but wanted to know if the reel is any good. Thanks for the replies so far.

For $38...even if they're not what you expected out of them, you're not out that much money! If you decide not to keep it, you can always sell it on e-bay and get your money back. I say go for it and update us. Matter of fact, I might run to Joes and check one out for myself. I'm needing a good low profile baitcaster to put on my IM-7 medium action.

Bought one during the after Christmas sale for $48.74. They have a 30 day price guarantee so I get about $11 back. Anyhow, I loaded it up with 20# Power Pro + 25yds of UG leader, and casted it a few times with a pencil lead. Not very good casting distance in my opinion probably due to the "whirring" sound when I casted it. Oiled and tried again, same thing. Won't be using it much for bobber or other light gear use. Probably OK for heavier drift fishing or for a boat rod. Retrieve was OK. Haven't tried it on the water yet. Nice A-G provides for one hand casting though instead of the old style button release. A fair bargain in my opinion, but if you're looking for a primary high use reel, I'd pass.

The sale kinda matches the ones they had on the Anti-Backlash reels. Were 109.99, then 49.99... IMHO not worth the 49.99 either! They do look tempting at 37, but I'd rather invest my 37 towards a curado, a couple $37 sales that I pass on and I'm there!

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">They retail for $64.99. If you read the fine print, it says it's a $109.99 value not retail. That usually means MSRP. I would agree they prolly wont cast worth **** . But they have been holding up well from what I've seen.
