Heard a backhoe or something like that slid into the river, too. nothing like a little diesel and 30 weight to gum things up for a while

You mean landslides actually happen without logging being a culprit! I dont believe it! Somewhere on that slope there must be a clearcut!

As for the whereabouts, I know that Clackamas River Drive is closed at the Riverbend youth center due to a mudslide. I'm assuming it's the same one.

The newspaper on Sunday said the machinery went off a 100'cliff into the water. I'm guessing it is very close to the youth center...I went to the river Saturday with my drift boat without checking the gauge first. It was brown and screaming and I still thought about doing the drift just for the fun of it. I thought better of it and glad I did. Among other obstacles that high water brings a large piece of machinery sticking out of the water wasn't one I had thought about. Only empty trailer in the lot that I saw was the sheriff's boat...

The slide is right before the school heading down river. the road gets very close to the edge there and for sure the road will be out for awhile. I hope no one was is the hoe when it went. :depressed:

Looks pretty messy.

Hope they can pull that excavator out of the river without making a bigger mess.
