Default Words on the Birds?

OK, folks. Let's have it....all has been very quiet on the duck front. Has this cold weather brought new birds to town? Is Oregon's new motto working yet?

Out there Monday and saw more ducks that usual. Not sure if they were northerns, but there were definitely more flocks than b4 the cold weather. They were working the refuge east of Oak Island road. Heard some shooting, but assumed it was coming from private property.

A guy that works at sauvies island told my buddies and I saturday morning that almost all the ducks have left sauvies island, and I think he was telling the truth. The numbers are down and there arn't hardly any birds flying. I am hoping that the ducks start moving soon because we are almost out of duck season!

CD Johnson took me to the Deer Island duck club on Sunday. Not that many birds, but the ones we saw were interested. We had 12 by noon. It was about 20 degrees when we started, about 35 when we stopped.

On previous trips to the same locale we saw lots of birds, but they were wise to the program, and wouldn't be decoyed or called in. This was my most productive hunt of the year (and my life), but I am pretty new to this, with the 5 trips I have taken this year being my first.

there are birds out at Sauvies, but when i was out there today all the lakes were totally frozen over with close to half an inch of ice. i saw quite a few big flocks of pintails, mallards, and teal going someplace...hopefully not california. i don't have high hopes for the rest of the season if all the water there is frozen over for the next few days.

Oh don't give up yet people. Birds are every where. This high winds just put lots of birds down. I could not believe how many birds are out here today. Big flocks of mallards and teal. If it was not for the subzero temps and high winds, I would have really put the hurt on them today.

Hope tomorrow its not as windy. If I get what I wish for  , oh I'm gonna get on some birds for sure.

it's going to warm up a bit tomorrow...if the birds stick around that long we should be in good shape.

Was on Sauvie yesterday. Widgeon and mallard flocks on the Gilbert. Decent #'s. The only open water that I saw.
