Why I Like Waterfowl Hunting
This is one of the resons I like waterfowling so much. This was a couple of days ago near Forest Grove. I was hunting with Get Bit, MikeT and DuckCommander71.

Re: Why I Like Waterfowl Hunting
I hear ya. I just discovered waterfowl hunting this year, and I got feather fever! But I tell ya, I found out yesterday how important serious insulation is. I hunted longer then I ever have before in a blind without moving around yesterday, and I got flat cold! I was layered and thought it was enough, but I am not use to being in a blind sitting on ice for 11 hours. Holy mackrel. I was fine for the first 4 or 5 hours, but once I started getting cold, it was the beginning of the end. Being that cold on zero sleep took so much outta me, I hit the sack at 8 pm, and didn't get outta bed until 11 the next morning. I tell ya, making sure you stay warm is a lesson I wont son forget!

Re: Why I Like Waterfowl Hunting
I am a rookie, but the thing that hooked me is the anticipation. Watching birds work your dekes and get closer with each pass, calling them and having them call back, I don't care how cold you are, that'll keep you warm for a while. Combine that with the rewards of working with a dog (something I have only watched, SO FAR) and it has all the makings of a great sport. I never killed that many birds with my 12 year old Brittany, but he made every one more special than if I had done it without him.
Even when it is slow, in five trips, I have seen thousands of geese, swans, and ducks, numerous eagles, hawks, kestrels and other raptors, and even had a herd of 17 elk cross right in front of our blind, 50 yards away, oblivious to us, until we started calling.
Great stuff.
