Woke up at 2:30 and Grabbed a cup of Black Coffee. After catching a few hours sleep.
Last night was Dig out the goose decoys night, and I dove deep into the Bowels of the crawlspace. Managed to hit my head, stumble into a big spider or two, but found my big Goose floaters with the flocked heads.
Grabbed a half dozen of those “Goose Photos on a stick”, and of course, My signature for the Spread, (4 Canvasbacks) just in case. Then Rendezvoued with Duckbrother Zachariah at the GI Joes Parking lot.
DB Zach and I had the good fortune to be invited on a goose expedition into a region never explored by us before.
Nice of Quackhead (Chris) and his buddy Mark (a chronic ifish lurker) to invite us along for what proved to be a good day.
We learned a few things:
1.) Bring more black coffee.
2.) The mud can suck your boot footed waders right off your legs if you get them a foot size too big
3.) 4 guys and a zillion decoys, a big yellowdog , and gear, are too much for the Stealthbomber to get up and Plane (all 40 horses of fury).
4.) Chris knows where to find geese, and not just any geese, but geese you can hunt on water, not on fields. Something that folks who frequent the river know is not always easy to do, especially geese that come and sit in the decoys rather than long pass shots.
We had a good time and there were several shots worth mentioning (both on groups of Hooded sawbills).
Chris made a shot at a Drake hoodie that was going about 50 mph and high, I mean really high.
We could see them coming from about ½ mile, and we knew they were trophy sawbills to boot.
I thought we were all going to pass on them since they were up so high, but Chris mounted his gun and fired a single shot. The Drake folded and fell dead about 75 yards out.
What a shot.
We managed a few pinners and a greenhead.
I was able to get a hoodie as well, so we got 2 entries for the sawbill derby already in just 1 trip.
We all got a goose or 2 for Christmas, and we all made 2 new friends (thanks ifish).
I’d be glad to share a blind with these guys again.
Was a good time to be sure.

And Madison puttin the Squeeze on a Trophy Sawbill!

On a sidenote,
When i put my foam earplugs in, they were wet, and one of them went in so deep that I could not remove it by hand.
When we finally got all loaded up at the ramp, I had to have DB Zachariah pull it out with a pair of pliers.
He laughed so hard that he started crying.
So be careful with wet foam ear plugs FOR GODS SAKE!
