Default Walker's Game Ear

I am not 30 years old, but I have noticed my hearing is not what it used to be. I want to find a device that will cut down on my continued hearing loss. I still want to be able to hear the slightest of sounds.

Has anyone used one of these? Do they work as well as advertised?

My dad has found they work real well for him. He likes them more than the hearing aids he's bought for over $1000.00.

Make sure you tie a piece of flagging on them so they are easy to see if they fall off. Another thing he does is have a piece of twine tied on from his hearing device to his clothes.

You don't always notice when they fall out.

I was wondering how secure these things were. Thank you for the tip.

Anyone else with personal experience?

Goofy Cowboy - or whatever your name is... Wait -
who would name themself "Drunk Cowboy"

What do you need a game ear for?
I know that 338-378 with the ear buster on the end can do some damage, but really---

The 338-378 with the break is a huge contributing factor.

I used to ignore my wife on purpose, but now I can't hear her unless she is close by (good or bad thing?).

With the game ear, at least I can hear deer and Elk

Maybe the game ear will "not" magnify the rifle blast sound too.

I have one, I'm not thrilled by it but I do use it. It's tough to tell direction and distance. I believe it shuts off around 90 db's so it effectively becomes an earplug at that point. I would miss it if I lost it but I'm not sure I'd replace it??? Never had a problem with it falling out but the squirrels drive me nuts.
It works, just seems kinda spendy to me.

That seems to be the trouble my Dad has too. He has hearing aids and turns them up when hunting, but he can't get a fix on the sounds. I once jumped some bucks above him and they bounded down the hill right at him, from behind. He said he could hear them coming but where the heck are they?? He found out when one of the bucks came whizzing by just a few yards away. We got some shooting but neither one of us got that buck!

I had some blood in my ear canal after a stick almost tore my ear drump.

It was still dark & I was trying to get a jump on the days hunting when in the darkness a branch twig found its way into my ear. It hurt some but wasn't a long term injury. Because of the blood that filled my ear canal I had only one good ear. No big deal I thought.

An hour latter I was near a herd of elk feeding. I could hear them but had no idea which way the sound they were making was coming from.

I eventually went the right way but th eone bad ear made me thing the noises were further away I think. Ended up spooking the herd that had a legal bull in it. Tracked the elk and spooked them a few more times till it grew to dark to shoot. Have never wondered about what having a balance of hearing means in finding a direction of a sound since.

A set of hearing aids that can give a sound direction is probably a very expensive thing to aquire.

Ever look into other hearing aids?

I think there may be something to just using your eyes and what ears you have. Especially if your ears can still tell what direction any sound you hear is coming from.

I just talked to mey buddy with the game ear. He said they work very well, but recommended getting it custom fitted for you ear if you get one. The one that it comes with isn't very comfortable.

Thank you for the replies

I will watch out for the directional issue. This sounds like a problem.

I've been using ESP interactive earplugs for years, they're the best! Custom fit, entirely in the ear. Can wear stocking cap over the top. Adjust the volume up to have Superman hearing if you want. Reduces loud noises to safe volume instead of cutting out, so you can hear bullet strikes. I have no trouble determining direction either! They run about $800/pair, I can get any ifisher a $100 discount......
