Default Winchester Model of U.S. 1917, 30.06...

While spending Christmas with my father, I mentioned that I was thinking of getting a hunting rifle. He told me that he had this old 30.06 that was his dad's (my deceased grandpa). He went upstairs and grabbed it. It's in pretty bad shape(cosmetically, not sure about internals), the stock is beatup, and it doesn't look likes it's been fired since WWI. Being as this is one of the first 30.06's ever made(This model was a WWI rifle) is it capable of ever being a huntable rifle? Any suggestions on how to get this gun in shape? Anyone familiar with these rifles? Thanks!

Find yourself some scope rings for it,slap on some optics and see how she groups. It should be more than capable of filling the freezer.

BEFORE YOU SHOOT THIS GUN HAVE A GUNSMITH LOOK IT OVER!

What you have is a 1917 Enfield manufactured by Winchester for the English as part of the Lend Lease program.

Yeah a gun smith would be a good idea there may be damage that can't be readaly seen.I didn't realize that was an Enfield good actions on them there.I have a .303 Enfield,my first rifle, and luv it,but don't use it much anymore. You will need a side mounted scope ring if you want to put some optics on it and if you find some let me know where I would like to scope my old .303 someday myself.
