Gears? Boy, that was a long time ago. Pretty sure they were 373 's. Does that sound right? I don't think lower gears would have helped this pig. A complete tear down with some serious head work would get the ball rolling.

Speaking of heads...... It's really something how bad they can be on some motors, like the older small block Chevys. Guys were always sliding in hotter cams, bigger carbs, double hump heads, and getting almost nothing for their efforts and $$'s.

A little known curiosity about MOPARS from those years, is they didn't offer 3.73s in any of their factory performance cars.
They went from 3.23s to 3.55s to 3.91s, with 3.55s being most common.

And when it comes to the 1/4 mile? Lower gears help everything, even the pigs.

They may have offered 3.73s in pickups that had Dana 60s in them, but none that I ever heard of. But I'm not aware of anyone that even makes 3.73s for the 8-3/4 rear-end.

No safety equipment, just a stripped no frills fun car.

Boss 429 Mustang and COPO Camaro were similar. Guy with the car lot at about 20th and E. Burnside has an orange COPO, quite a ride! Never been in a Boss 429.
