Default Whats the best spinning reel for bobber and jig?

I recently purchased a new 10'6" spinning rod for bobber and jig fishing. Light action. What is the best reel for that rod and steelhead fishing?
Thanks

My personal choice is an Okuma Epixor, but I'm sure several will mention the Shimano line, such as the Sedona, Sahara, etc. They're great as well, but will run a few more $$ for a reel that, at best, I believe is equal to an Epixor.

Pflueger Trions are also a good choice...I have two that are years old and still function great.

Overall though, I'd pair that rod with an Okuma Epixor 30...you can't go wrong.

Good luck

One that you can afford and makes you happy. Which ever one you choose, I would make sure it has a instant anti-reverse and a good drag. Good Luck........

I've been using a Mitchell 300X for three years now. It's inexpensive, and has lasted me this long. It's set up for easy opening of the bail to allow your bobber to free-spool down through the hole, and is easy to close. Good gear ratio for a quick retrieval of a long drift. $45.00 and is very dependable! They look pretty cool too!

My favorite is the Shimano Stradic. The new MgFA Stradic is really nice.

I have stayed with the Shimano Spinning Reels (4000s for salmon & 2000s for steelhead) as maintenance on them is easier as they do not use as many ball bearing as the other reels. A little cleaning and high oil once in awhile and your just like new.

Just purchased a Shimano Sedona. Very nice reel, and not that expensive. I think I paid around $50.00 at Sportsmans.

I have an Okuma Epixor 30 and a Shimano Spirex, and I like both. The Instant Anti-reverse on the Okuma is nice, but the Quickfire on the Shimano saves time. However, I don't usually use either of these features when fishing bobber & jig. I flip the switch to be able to "back-reel" to release more line in order to extend my drift. It took a while to get used to doing this (if you reel too fast the extra line gets wound around the reel and tangles, and if using braided line it can bind after freeing a snag and start winding line back onto the reel the wrong direction), but now that I'm used to it I feel I have more control than just leaving the bail open. It's still not quite as easy as with a baitcaster, but the tradeoff is that I am much more accurate casting light jigs with the spinning setup. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Any of the higher quality, ball bearing spinning reels of major manufacture will do great. It's a matter of what you like. Go to the reel counter and play with them all. Pick the one you like. I prefer Shimano Stradic 2500, or the Shimano Symetre because I like the way they feel and perform. I have a Shimano Spirex--don't like it because it doesn't have the constant anti-reverse. The spirex has a self centering stop so you can use the trigger system. It doesn't work for me.

I know a lot of people love their Okumas. I own three of the epixor's, but recently switched all my sidedrifting and float setups to the Pflueger President spinning reels. The Okuma bails are too tight/sticky for my taste. Also, too much plastic in high wear areas IMO.

Shimano Sustain or Diawa Capricorn. Both in the 2500 series. Two of the best spinning reels that I have owned.

I use a Shimano Symetre, it has super-stopper, which keeps the spool from going in reverse. If you want abosolutelly the best spiining reel on the market, look at Van Staal, or The Shimano Stella. Both are high class reels, if i recall corectly, the Stella has 12 ball bearings.

I personally like the Okuma line of spinning reels. I have a Metaloid 30 myself with 30 lb Tuff Line. Its also a good idea to just go down to your local tackle store and try em out and see which one feels the best. Okuma does make a high quality product though.

I've got Sedonas-2500 and 4000.
Both have caught fish and have held up well.

I have used the Epixor, Sahara and Catera. All 3 are inexpensive and have worked well for me. I prefer the order listed above.

There is not a better reel than the Stradic! I have had great luck with mine. I bought one at least 10 years ago and it is still going strong and I just bought my second one for side drifting. I am forever sold on the stradic.

I've had a sedona for (?) +/- 10 years and 2 saharas, all 2000's and they've been very reliable. Biggest fish was a 57" sturgeon while squaw.. I mean, northern pikeminnow fishing.

I use a Shimano Stradic 4000. The drag handles steelies and the occasional chinook.

I have a sedona 2500 on my ten and a half footer. I have an Epixor 30 on my All Star 1143. They seem to balance each other out pretty well. Look for a reel thta matches the weight of the rod while still having a good amount of line capacity. I personally feel the Epixor 30 would be too heavy for that light of a rod, the balance would feel awkward, at leats to me. I also have a Stradic 2500 that I feel can't be beat for a steelhead spinning reel. I looked hard at the Epixor 20 for my ten and a half footer but I felt the line capacity was too little for me. Also, get a front drag on whatever you get, it's a little bigger than a rear drag which doesn't heat up as much and seems smoother.

In summation, smaller reel, go Shimano, bigger reel, go Okuma, the Epixor or Metalloid would get my nod.
