Ok, pulled this post out of Crappie's "Six foot steehead" thead cuz someone yelled "Hijack" so I thought since I had it written up, I'd post it over here on it's own.....
I was fishing for halibut up in Neah Bay several years ago with my wife. It was late afternoon, and we were back at the dock after day 2 of 7, and my wife wandered up the store. When she came back, the coversation goes like this;
My wife - "You should see the boat that just came in from out beyond the blue dot.!! They're up at the scale right now, 500# halibut!!!"
Me, trying not to laugh - "Uhh honey, they don't get that big."
My wife, detecting my smug look - "Uhhh, they DO, I just watched them weight in!!!!"
Me, trying to be patient - "Ok, so yes, there are, in theroy, halibut that big, and when I worked up on Kodiak Island unloading comms, I saw a couple pushing that weight, but trust me, they don't have them in Washington, and haven't had in years, what you are talking about would be some kind of world record......"
My wife - "I don't CARE what the world record
is, I just watched them weight in!!!"
Me - "500 # halibut?"
My wife, getting more than a little ticked at me - "That's what I said!"
Me, now risking future congical visits - "500 # halibut, you're sure?"
My wife - "Well, a couple of them are just a hair under 100#, but 3 of them are over 100#. "
Me, still not getting it - "What are you talking about???"
My wife, tired of explaining herself and mad that I hadn't just walked up to the scale myself - "I'm talking about 5, 100# halibut you idiot! "
Me - "I thought you said 500# halibut?
My wife - "I DID say 5 hundred pound halibut!!!"
Me, now grasping for the first time my error - "Wow, I guess I better go up and take a look."
My wife - "Whatever....."
