Default Washougal Winter Steelhead?

In my life I have only fished for winter steelhead one time. I'm planning on hitting it this year and since the washougal is so close, it will be my home river to work on this winter. Anybody had any luck on shoug in the past years? I am mainly looking to do bobber, including jig and bait I hate losing gear drifting. I don't know when they start coming in or where I should try throwing a bobber. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

I was actually just talking to someone on here about this topic. I live in Washougal myself and have fished this river in the winter several times for Steelies. I have never had any luck and have never seen anyone else have any luck either on this river. I always end up losing my confidence in it and just heading over to the NFL where i'm confident that I can hook into some Steel. This is a small river, so bring your waders and fish hole to hole up and down the river, don't spend all your time in one single hole. The big pull off where there is a small water fall pouring into the side of the river is a good place to start, a decent amount of fishy looking water in that stretch. Good luck and post your results!

I know the pulloff that your talking about, its the 3 mile. I know thats where alot of guys put in with drift boats and float down to hathaway. The winter run seems like it should be decent. Both winter and summer plants are about 60,000. The NFL is just too much of a drive and I have only fished up there a handfull of times for fall chinooks. I managed to catch one good hen out of the shoug, and cured the eggs in hopes to use them for winter steel.

Is he the guy that they call "metalhead"? I have heard of him. And, even saw him on a youtube video.

I've fished it as well for winters with no luck at all.. IMO a very poor winter steel river.

Fish the two weeks around xmas and then in April-May. I lived there for 8 years and it took me a while to figure out. The winter fish seem to come all at once right around xmas and move through the system pretty fast. Talk to the guys at the Skamania hatchery up the N. Fork. They'll give you some info. You can catch them anytime from Nov-June but those are the best in my experience. Might get ahold of Eric Lindy. Not sure if he does guided trips on the Shoug but I used to seem him out there all the time. He grew up out there and knows it as well as anyone.
