Default Forming a non-profit info

Its time has come, and I will be forming a non-profit. Does anyone here have experience or advice to lend? I have the Nolo press book on the subject, and a few willing participants to assist. I am always looking for additional information. Thank You.

Forming a public trust corporation is a serious matter. Along with the benefits come responsibilities.

I would first ask if incorporation is really necessary? Can you partner with an existing not-for-profit whose mission aligns with what you seek to do?

If tax-deductibility of contributions is the chief concern, is there an existing not-for-profit 501c3 willing to serve as a pass-through fiscal agent?

Along with the other resources suggested, get the latest copy of The Oregon Nonprofit Corporation Handbook, published by TACs 503-239-4001

Marriage is as close to a non-profit as I care to get.

Gary,

Just read this post, and your quote, and I was wondering if a local church might be able to do this? Or are they under a different type of tax law?

I'm completely out of my element on this subject, so I apologize if it's a dumb suggestion, lol.

Thanks!

Good news! The "Combat Warrior Crisis Network" a 501(c)(3) Non-profit has just offered to be a pass through fiscal agent for the KevinsDriftboat Fishing Project. I have known the founder for several years, and he has already done many great things for our soldiers and their families.

There are benefits and exemptions that apply specifically to churches beyond what 501c3 incorporation conveys to a non-church organization. Church's are subject to less regulation.

But I don't know much beyond that.
