Got mine in the mail today , it didnt say anything about storage on the outside, so I hucked it in the fridge. I will try it on herring this weekend...maybe a spoon, spinner or wobbler....I am thinking of mixing some with one of the favorite aerosol attractants in a pump type spray bottle to spray on spinners, etc. As previously mentioned, injection will be the method for the herring/anchovie. I inquired about an Oregon retailer (to avoid international shipping from merry old UK), here's the reply I received:

"Thanks for your email. We are waiting for the initial shipment of Ultra Bite
to arrive, that should be in a couple of weeks. Fisherman's Marine in
Portland will have the product available. Look for it to be on the shelves
by mid September.

The salmon/steelhead formula should be very effect on fall salmon. I have
used it in Alaska and on Lake Ontario with fantastic results.

If that much gets into the river the fish will start eating the rocks.

Quote:
DOES IT WORK
Ultrabite works for sure, in field tests, one of the problems has been that, as a result of drawing so many fish to a swim, line bites have been too prevalent - so they had to reduce some of the hormone levels, there is also evidence on video that shows fish trying to eat stones as there was no food available for them to eat.

When I got mine from UB it came to about $17., it depends on the currency exchange rate the day the transaction is settled by the credit card company.
It sure does stink even through the packaging. I've been storing it in a extra ziploc in the outside fridge. When my other order comes in I'll vac pack it and keep it out there also. When its cold it just smells like road kill, instead of salty, fishy, road kill.
I also got an email that they are working on a gel formula, and gave some suggestions to try in the mean time.
I do wonder if they will cut its potency to maximize profits in the US, not sure but I have a feeling...

Finally got mine today. My credit card shows a charge of 19.??

I commented to my my wife that is sure does stink. I could smell it before I even opend the mailing envelope. She said what smell? Does that mean she is used to fish smell because of me? Couldn't be, I don't catch enough. Oh, maybe I just stink all the time.

Can't wait to try it. Maybe in the next day or two. I will be trying Top Secret also. I will try them separately and together.

I will try post the results. Although I hope to be too busy cleaning fish to post right away.

I put some vials in our spare fridge in our laundry room. I have it double sealed with zip lock bags. The Vials havent even been opened, anyhow they have been in there a week and I have been waiting for my wife to say something. Well lastnight she smelled it. I use that frige and freezer for all my bait and scents but she says that one has got to go. So not sure what I am going to do with it now, I dont want to waste it and I have no where to keep it out side with no garage. I will have to think of something. Maybe pick up a spare fridge for outside that I can lock up.

I had some luck with it last weekend bank fishing for stealhead.
We were camping on the river and I put it on my spin and glow about 11pm and went to sleep with my bell on, on a incoming tide, well the next morning about 1/2 after the tide changed to outgoing, I got woke up by my bell hitting the ground and my drag buzzing. After I got the fish in I smelled my lure and it still had that nasty smell on it. I mixed it with some Mikes Shrimp oil and it worked fine. I think it will work better for Fall Chinook.

Best of luck

I was fishing the upper Nehalem the other day, and Bill and I decided I'd go up the ramp and into the store for a corn dog or two.

Got in the store, dressed, totally normally... no fishing gear, and the guy says, "How is fishing?"
I said, "Fine, how'd you know I was fishing and not just a tourist?"

He said, "Because you smell really bad!"

Tee hee!

I'd only used it once that day!

It's B A D D D D!

If you are going to store that stuff in the fridge...even the bait fridge either vac pack it or just put it in a good canning jar with a regular canning lid. It will not get out of a glass jar with the lid cranked down.
It would be wise to slap a big note on the top of that jar stating open at your own risk......

I have a great way to hide frozen cookies and other goodies now.

The whole family, since chef David baked the Ultra bite, knows about the stuff, and how bad it smells...

So, now I label things in the freezer that I want to eat myself, with big letters.

ULTRABITE

It works! Try it!

Hello All - Here's the deal on Ultra Bite

The initial shipment for North America is due into Mustad's warehouse the second week in September. Once in the warehouse, it will be turned around ASAP and shipped to our customers who have placed orders. If your local dealer does not know about it tell them to call All Sports Supply or Gunarama Wholesale (no, they will not sell consumers directly, nor will Mustad). These two distributors will be getting it as soon as it's ready and can ship to any dealer who buys from them.

You'll save a lot of $$$ compared to ordering it from Europe. The retail should be around $12 per 3oz. bottle. There are 3 formulas - Salmon/Steelhead, Bass, and Saltwater. The scent does NOT need to be refrigerated. The only way you can really damage it is by boiling it.

The key thing to remember is that it takes a few seconds to work. You need to get the Ultra Bite in the water and give it a chance to work. IF you are high speed trolling in one direction it will not work as well as if you are turning around working one area hard. It works well if you are drifting a run and you are moving slower than the current so that the Ultra Bite gets to the fish a few seconds before your offering does.

Just got my second order from the UK. This site had a 2for1 going. They ran out of the salmon scent and had to cut my order short :depressed: I had ordered some for a couple of other guys and we were gonna split it, and I got the general sea fish one to try on you guessed it Ocean fish. Not sure its to much different though, haven't got the ba**s up (self edit) to taking a up close and personal big whiff yet. When I do if there seems to be difference I try and describe the diff. Not sure if I'll do enough fishing to go thru 2 packs of it but what the hey, if its for fishing, you cant have too much of it, right?

I was wondering today...
we fishing folks get into trying new stuff(Alvins, Ultra Bite). Now we have an idea how this Ultra Bite stuff works but what happens when it is used in excess, spilled, or all the above in a confined area(picture a favorite salmon, steelhead creek).
If a little goes a long way or at least causes fish in the affected area to even grab gravel(promo stuff) what will happen down stream from a bunch of fisherman using the stuff(or spilling it)? How screwed up are the fish going to be when it finaly is time to make the redds, and do their respective duties? How wacked out are these fish going to be after passing through a bunch of UB users and coming on a stretch of non-users? Will they have setted down or will they be tight lipped or ...?
As we use this product lets keep an eye not on just the catch ratio but any other effects that it may have on the fish. Sounds like the olfactory response among us humans is pretty much unanimous.

I got mine in the mail a couple days ago.. it does have a "special" odor to it. My dog sniffed the outside of the package and curled his lips at it.

I would like to hear if it is working?/ I am going to try it in the CR this weekend near marker 77. Im only gonna use it on one rod for a while and see what happens.

I agree with lets fish to keep an eye on it. Anything that shows up in the mail with a HazMat sticker on it makes me a little nervous.

OK Guys, we tried that stuff two weeks ago on the Rogue. And on the Nehalem three weeks ago. Didn't seem to make any difference 0 for 0. I will say though, it smells like elk urine. What do you elk hunters think?
Stopped up the little vial with a toothpick and it still leaked out. Now the whole tackle box stinks. Is that a bad thing?

I will just have to be sure to let them know how far I drove and that I heard about it on ifish!

Ok, we need more actual catch reports, especially against others not using it. You and a buddy fish as normal. One use Ultrabite, one doesn't. Report the catch good or bad.

More posts would be great but...

Earlier tonight I did a search on Ultrabite and without going back and counting I think I remember at least 3 or 4 times where people did with and without direct comparisons.

Some of them were using Marie's Sticky Shrimp Scent with UB in it but the comparisons with the UB or Marie's with UB got fish when the pole without didn't.

I would like to see more but I think I have seen enough to be convinced...

With one of the ingredients named "skatole" I now understand why it smells like doggy "doo". I've been using it, but refuse to handle anything without wearing latex gloves. That smell stays with you for a couple of days. Too early for me to comment on how well it works, but I will say I put a little on some eggs the other day while fishing some real neophytes for salmon. Normally, the odds of picking up a fish when the back-bouncing technique was poorly understood, and even more poorly executed aren't real good. They each got one and the fish took the bait so deep I had to cut the leader.

I have been using ultra bite for some time now and out of the 100+ salmon we have landed in the last couple months I have yet to even get a tap. I've tried it on herring, spinners, eggs and kwikfish. Kind of makes me wonder.

I just cured some eggs with it today and will post any results, but one thing is did seem to catch is a lot of fishermen. Including myself. Some things in life sound too good to be true, such as the fish eating rocks during testing. I guess we'll find out this weekend.

It works for me. Over the last month I've been using eggs cured with Amerman's cure both in Steelhead and Salmon while fishing for coho. Some eggs I have used the Ultrabite in the curing process and in others I have not. Over the last month I've become much more confident fishing the Amerman cured eggs with UB. In addition to using the UB in the cure I will also add a drop or two of it on the eggs when I toss them out there. Seems to make a big difference to me. In addition, I am hooking a few fish on the opposite side of their mouth. This has never happened to me before, even using Amerman cure, and at first I thought the fish were snagged because I saw the line going over their head when I was fighting them, but they weren't snagged. It seems to me that what is happening is that the eggs will drift past the fish who does not initially take the bait, then once it smells the scent trail, it turns around and picks up the bait heading downstream, thus getting hooked on the side of the mouth not normally facing me.

I havn't had much luck using ultrabite salmon fishing, but I did find that if I mixed it with vasoline and put it on my smelt, the sturgeon loved it.

Fished with the stuff lathered all over coon shrip for some Columbia River (above bonneville) steelhead with dismal results. The ultrabite did not seem to make a difference in a head-to-head bait drowning contest.

We have been using this stuff for about a month now. Doing C&R on steelhead, one using it and the other not. (drifting bait)If the bite is poor or if the fish are very slow it MAY make them work the bait a little longer. As for making any actual difference in numbers in fish caught day after day, We have not seen any real difference. We plan on continuing throughout the season....It doesn't seem to hurt so in some situations it might make a difference.
I think good fresh bait and good delivery is the key...anything else is a bonus.
