Default Steelhead on the Sandy?

Where is a good place on the Sandy River for steelhead fishing? Are there really fish being caught there now? What are they biting? I read the fishing reports saying that fish are being caught, but I haven't had any luck or seen others have luck. Any other local recommendations? Thanks.

Fishing on the Sandy should be about over. Head on up to the Salmon River. You will have better success when it rains again in September on the Salmon R. Go to Wildwood Park keep left and fish #4 brass spinners and you will kill the summers. Every litle dark green pocket (the size of your bathtub) will hold steeheads.

I looked in the regs and it isn't listed so I think it is closed. Any other suggestions for close to Portland? Thanks.

The Sandy River is closed above Marmot Dam. There are fish in the lower river but glacial melt makes catching difficult. If the freezing level drops for a couple days the river can clear up. Look for overcast days after a drop in freezing level(I guess that rules out this week). When those conditions have been present, Steelhead have been hooked and landed at Oxbow Park the last few weeks. Size three and four Blue Fox spinners are a good bet.

OOOPS....I didn't realise the Salmon River was closed. What a shame all those summer hatchery errr, native steelhead making more native/wild fish. Why spend $2.50 for a Blue Fox when you can make one for under .75 or buy a Bud's spinner for around 1.00. With the glacier melt, the brass blades will wok great. They will hammer them early morning and late in the evening. Fish pocket water.
