I would use a 1/4 oz jig myself to keep it down in most of the cowlitz. Go with pink or nightmare pattern.

1/2 oz west coast float, 3/8 oz inline lead, 1/8 oz First Bite in solid red, beaded pink and white, or a homemade nightmare.

It's not the only way or even the best way for sure, but it's worked for me

As orange as possible, I've done really good with orange. 1/8 or 1/4 whatever you prefer

I only sidedrift the cowlitz from the boat but I do bank fish another sw wa river pretty regularly in june and july. Last year I caught between 4-10 fish a trip and put maybe 40 to the bank in 6 or 7 trips. I have used lots of different jigs and color patterns but the best one for me is the aero jig brand nightmare pattern 1/4oz jig. Ya they are cheapo's and kinda plain jane but they work way better than some of the fancier expensive jigs. The over the edge tackle pink jig a bugger is my next choice.

Orange seems to be a good color for me. Also pink variations. Where are you going? Barrier Dam, Blue Creek?
