Default McNary Crankin Em Out 11/30 - 12/01

Turtle and I hit the water at 1900 hrs last
evening. At 2200, Turtle says "Man, I think
we are gonna get skunked" Boom his rod goes
off. He is able to land a mint bright
hatchery steelie weighing approx. 14
pounds! 15 minutes later I hook a 12 pound
hatchery steelie. Then I get a nate. Then
another nate. Right before Midnight, Ike
rolled in wearing all his colors. I was
able to subdue him and he stretched the
tape at 37 inches! Turtle hooked up again a
little while later, but thought he was
Roland Martin and put too much pressure on
the fish and the fish was gone. I was able
to hook one more nate and we lost one other
fish. When the sleet finally settled, we
hooked 8 and landed 6.
My sweetie comes home tomorrow and I really
miss her. I might not make it out tonight!
Otherwise we will be back out Monday night.

Steve --- How would you compare the overall performance of the new Litefish with the old Vortex? Do the new lures take any of your special preparations? Love your reports.

Thumper,
There is no prep time on a lighted
Kwicky. I do changeout the hooks to glow
in the dark trebles though. They have
really been an effective lure the last 3
weeks.

Bill,
These would work great on your coastal
rivers. We flatline the plugs at 40
pulls. No weight needed as they dive to
15 feet. By the time we add our special
smelly jelly, it gets them a little
deeper. I would not pull them without a
chunk of cured prawn on the front treble.
We break off the head and tail and put a
streamlined piece on the bottom tine. See
where the trebles lays naturally against
the lure body. There will be a single
tine, that is where you want the chunk of
shrimp. Make sure the plug tracks well
and you are off to the steelhead races.
We have been using two colors. The clear
with red squiggles on the sides and the
plug with the reddish orange bill. It has
chartreuse squiggles that we scratch off.
I heat my trebles and dip them in a
powdercoat paint that glows in the dark.
It does not weaken the hook and I think
it gives the fish something else to key
on.

Born to fish,
Thank you for the kind words. Everbody
has a particular fishing passion. Night
time works for me and others.

Way 2 go FEAR NO FISH!

You know, when I first started to read your postings I said to my self "night fishing, um not for me" but now I'll be honest, that really sounds like a blast and I really want to try it some time, do you think maybe you can give me a few tips. You can post here or you can e-mail me.

Thanks a lot

Thank you Fear no Fish for all the reports I truely have enjoyed reading them, but one question..... Are you fishing above or below the dam? And if I might ask what ramp do you use.

Keep the reports coming!!

Good luck,
Andy

Big N Bright,
Just let me know if you have any specific questions. I have posted a lot of information on night fishing the last three years. More fish, bigger fish, less people.
Andy Coho,
We fish above the dam. There are two launches. Washington side is terrible. It is not lit up and is a one holer. Parking lot is not lit up either.
Oregon side is awesome. Nice bathrooms, well lit, plenty of parking and is a three holer. Nice dock section until they take it out. It seems when steelheading is getting good they decide to pull it out. Oct 31st every year.

Steve...
your killing me.. the drive home Friday night was terrible... got home at 4:30am. so wound up from the white knucle drive that sleep never made it. o well. 32" fish on the table was worth it... not going to return without being stealth... elect. motor piggy back on kicker. that way the TR-1 would run the kicker and the elect would do the work... doing your best by the ladder on Or. side? I thought we could only fish the washington side of the river after dark. after seeing you running circles over there thats when we joined you and got in to the action
see ya soon

Sam

fished McNary sat night until about 9:00 pm. sounds like we just missed the bite. Caught one keeper at 17 1/2 pounds nice fish. How long is the fishing good until they move up river.

Great posts from FNF. Is the pool above McNary the only place that night fishing is legal? I can't even find the reference in the Synopsis that says it is legal above McNary.

T-chinook - Only legal in WA state waters (not the boundary waters of the Columbia)! Proly why you couldn't find it in the OR regs!
