I like to cook them up within a day or two. if you would like to keep them longer it's better if you freeze them. try some dry ice.

The main thing to remember if you put them on ice, try to keep them out of the water. Drain your cooler at least once a day or more if hot out.
Ideally, you could take knives and ziplock bags and then fillet and bag them in the ziplocks then the cooler water isn't as much of an issue.
People stay over there a week or more at a time and bring back fish no problem but, most of them process and bag or wrap them daily.

When we stay for a week, we will keep a few the first day or two to eat while we are there. Then we'll start keeping to bring home about 2 days before we leave. Any longer than that, and the fish dont keep well, even taking good care of them. short of dry ice that is. And really, i only want so much frozen anyways. usually, even with just two of us, you can catch enough in 2 days, usually more than id ever want to fillet anyways.

Altho you can keep fish on Ice for over a week, they'll start to spoil in a few days or so with just Ice, & you need to keep your cooler out of the Sun, we used to keep our cooler inside the colvert at Morgan cr. just for this reason, Dry Ice, or one of those plug in coolers will extend the cooler time.

If you are going to be near Huntington, go to "Candy's Corner" Grocery and she will freeze them for you. Costs $3 plus a dollar a day, and they come home perfect.

If you're in the Richland area we can vac seal and freeze them for you. We bought a chamber sealer from ifish sponsor qualitymatters and will try this on a trial basis to see if we can keep up with the demand and if it is worth the time. You will need to call us ahead of time to arrange the dropoff and pickup. Filleted fish only.

If your near Huntington go in the little store in town the older looking one can't think of the name but they will freeze it for you and hold it til you go home cheap price, had 75 lbs. of catfish fillets in there a few years back they came out great we put them in gallon zip locks and put a little water in each bag, when we got home we thawed and vacc. pack in more useable size pkgs. worked out great, we did this for many trips. Good Luck fishing it's always fun to bring home some good fish for friends and family.
