Charles,
You did an awsome job organizing what turned out to be one of the finest Ifish/SD events I've ever attended. ![]() Popeyes clam chowder would put Mo's out of business. hspower served 80lbs of ribs in 25min, that alone speeks for his BBQ abilities. I had three peices of BBQ chicken. It was so good I just kept going back. MMMMmm.... Damn, Who Was That Guy! Puffins boil was a big hit as always. I only ate corn from it but had three peices. Roses, kenielaw(sp?) and blue berry pie was my first coarse. No way I was going to fill up and then not have room for Roses good eats! Ray, I'm gonna do a search for your torch grilled TUNA salad. That stuff was flying off the table faster than you could prepare it. I also found room for a half dozen oyster shooters. YBCG were excellent hosts; Thank you all again for your dedication to our safety! ![]() Looking forward to next years event at Depoe Bay. ![]() I picked up a Tshirt from each station to show my support and see to it that these fine people get some R&R. I had a very nice visit with old friends and hopefully made some new. My belly still hurts though!!! I really wanted to try some of that tasty looking chili; I guess it's a good thing I didn't.

OK...it's time to put THIS thread to rest
![]() I didn't do anything more than pm some folks and BBQ. None of this could have happened without the wonderful assemblage of humanity represented today by the Salty Dogs and the dedicated men and women of the Coast Guard. I knew that if I put out the call, my brutha's & sista's would be there for me, and well you were. Thank you for the opportunity to belong to such a fine group of people. I'll post more on the USCG thread. PS Glenn, you flatter me , but change this threads title to something more reflective of the group effort , cause that's what it was!

Charles, you're so modest. We know how hard you worked: you're supposed to be at work on Saturday, you could have gone fishing but instead you were setting up for the party, there were very few people there when I left but you were still hard at work wrapping up the food for the coasties, cleaning etc...
Great job and already looking forward to next year! Thuan

I was told by the highest guy in command there, "Whatever your group is doing, they are doing it right!" I told him that I knew you guys were good, but that I had nothing to do with that part, but I was proud to host you.
And then, he told me about how if they want to get the word out, it's via your group that gets the best effort... Such as getting the crab traps out of the channel where they need to do tows, etc. Please remember that if you see people setting traps in the channel, a friendly tip as to where they should be put by you guys and gals would be helpful. (Without getting into a tiff!) Maybe tell them where to put them that is equally as good? Anyhow-- You guys are doing it up right. I don't think there are many fishers that appreciate their help as much as you display. Way to go! Jen

Another great big THANKS to Charlie and his entire family for putting this event on for everyone who attended. The USCG personnel were very thankful for the recognition, the food and the event that gave them a break from their busy summer schedules.
Here are a few pics to show everyone just how well Charlie did! SD and his girls

Charlie, you are awesome!
Jenny, it was great to finally meet you in person, and to Puffin and Popeye, you guys will probably both cause me to assume rotund proportions if I can get your recipes. ![]() The coasties seemed pretty jazzed! I seldom feel so honored as I do with you all for such a noble cause!

Nothing I could write would do justice describing my feelings of thanks for the friendships I have cultivated through this board. I was trying to think how to word my reply to thank everyone for their help, when I realized that there were so many folks who offered their assistance I couldn't possibly name everyone. From 10:00 am on, I had helpers ready and willing from both my Ifish Brutha's and Sista's and our Coast Guard friends. At close to 7:00, with a baby screaming, and 3 teenagers ready to roll, I still had friends making sure we had things lined out/loaded.
Several folks went above and beyond with their assistance. You and I know who you are... ![]() NONE of this could have happened without Jeanie ...er, Jennie. She deserves 2 medals!

Wild Hog THANKS you did an awsome job. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and every one was enjoying themselves, even the kids. It was good to meet you and every one else as it is taking a while to put faces to names and monikers. I do believe the Coasties enjoyed giving the taxie rides they were happy and relaxed in there efforts to acomadate us.

Fantastic job Sir Charles!!! It was great seeing everyone and reconnecting with so many Dogs. Thanks to the crew that did all the work, and thanks again to the Coast Guard for the Job they do. The 47's were cool, but that Victory was a fantastic boat. I really liked having the oppertunity to explore her.

My thanks too to Wildhawg and everyone else that made this happen. Nice to meet many of you that I hadn't seen before.
It was good to meet Jennie in person finally also. The coast gaurd were excellent hosts. Ended up with a couple of tshirts for myself and my son. We both enjoyed touring all of the boats and the great info from the cg on these tours. While my son and I were touring the admin building again marveling at the pictures of the boats in the surf the gentleman that was giving us the tour told us how awesome this was. He said "People love us here". Told us how coming from Alameda I believe, then washington people would flip them the bird, damage their vehicles, etc and just in general didn't like the coast gaurd. It felt great to be part of a group that showed them that we do appreciate them. They are the best friends we have out there. I am sure you would all agree with me that it feels good to have them sitting on a sloppy bar or see them on the way in when the visibility is next to none waiting to make sure we all make it safe. Thanks Coast Gaurd and to all who made this happen. Dan |

The more I think about it, the less I feel I deserve this medal.
I so wish it had gone to Pilar, or all of the people who have worked to make salty dogs what it is. I only started the web site. I did not have much to do with making the dogs such a safe, united group. I own it with pride, and I'm very thankful... but I also feel that it should have gone to all of you! Jen

Jennie,
It did go to all of us. And to the 'Dogs who haven't even joined us yet. You and Charley just got elected to be the Keepers of the Medal, that's all. ![]() There isn't one of us in this by ourselves. We're a team and a community. And that's what makes it so goooood!! ![]() So hang onto it with pride. It's ours you know. ![]() Skein

Its been two days since the Big Event and hardly a moment has gone by that I have not reflected upon Saturday's gathering/celebration. From just an idea several months ago, to preparing the fish and deserts, to cleaning up after the party, there have been many involved, but without Charlie's energey this whould not have happened. What an eventful day, the line of Salty Dogs at South Beach, hauling up the Salty Dog Flag on our flag pole (thanks Mike), the food, oh yes the food (I'll be paying for that for a while with the inches on my waist...), but the nicest thing was actually putting a face to all the names on the board. On behalf of the Crew and families of Station Yaquina Bay & Depoe Bay I want to say a big THANK YOU for everyone's support and friendship. It seems that just when I think "How can it get better than this?" That it does get better! Next year we can prove it at Depoe Bay!!! I'm humbled, Thanks. Rich

Jennie, don't be silly. You're the leader, the skipper. You get the credit or the blame for those in your charge.
Display that award with pride, you earned it. We are all in this together in most everything we do. Everything from helping each other with our boats, to having TA meetings and conventions, to checking on someone we know that is broken down on the road (thanks Rod, you are the man), to swapping BS at the cleaning station, to watching out for the other guys hunting offshore with you on any given day. This is a group like no other .. And you are the one that made it all possible Jennie. Thank you.

Skein, you sure have a way with words.
That makes me feel better. I'll just be the keeper. I sure would like it, though, if it went out to sea with you sometime, Pilar... or Skein, or any of you dogs! Jen

You know Jennie, I felt kind of awkward too...knowing that what I have contributed to the Salty Dog's and Ifish in general really doesn't amount to a hill o' beans.
In your case, I beg to differ. Were it not for your diaries and message board almost 6 years ago, none of this would have ever happened. As Pilar and Skein so adeptly stated--YOU are the only reason any of us have a wingman. In real life it takes many years to cultivate a group of like minded friends who you can count on to be there for you at sea, or on the beach. It used to take hundreds of hours to find out how to begin to fish the ocean, much less how to rig and what to use for bait. We used to "fly by the seat of our pants" when it came to conditions offshore--with no access to bouys or top o' the hill lookouts like we have now! No Jennie...you deserved it. I only wished I'd taken up the many offers of help I had and visited with you, Bill, and my other salty Brutha's and Sista's!!!!! Thanks again Jennie, Charlie.

You are a big man Charley, in more ways than one.
![]() Jenny, no regrets on the medallion, your efforts have held this thing together for a long time. The Coast Guard aptly awarded both of these. I, for one, do not question their judgement at all.

I dont care however you guys divide up the thanks , but me and my wife had a great time. She especially loved the rides in the CG boats, which she sorely needed since things have been tough lately
![]() Thanks again to all involved, all those who brought tons of great food and prepared it, and all the USCG folks who were extremely nice and courteous. Russ
