It’s coming quick!! The First Annual Coast Guard Appreciation Day will be held at Station Yaquina Bay in Newport Oregon on 16 July 2005 from 2-6 pm.
It would take far too much effort to organize and quantify everyone’s contributions--there will be too much of some things, and not enough of others. One thing I know is that no one will go hungry!! I have commitments for fresh fish (Rich, could you order up some calm seas for that week?) and crab from several of our members, hotdogs/burgers/chili/and seafood chowder along with a quantity of side dishes and desserts. We have 20+cases of pop and water, and Rich has kindly lent us the use of his facility and plates/utensils. SOUNDS LIKE WE HAVE THE FIXIN’S FOR A PARTY!!!! I will pm everyone who has offered to bring cooking equipment and/or help in that department personally. I’d like to have a deep fryer for halibut. Here is the list of attendees and numbers of people with whom I have communicated so far. If there is a ? next to you, please reply below with the number of people you will be bringing. It‘s not too late to signup--just do so below, and your name will be added to the list: USCG Yaquina 35-40, USCG Depoe Bay 10-15, Wildhawg 6, EDSR 1, Popeye 2, Triple C 2, Crabbait?, Hoggemin 1, Megabytes 5, Wthr4rd 4, WP 2, Badger 1, Kingfisher 2, Bluefin 2, Saltwater Only 2, Blubeast 2, Aquaholic 2, Spinnergal 2, Tuna Boy ?, Sea go’n 2, Baja Bob 5, Spoiled Daddy 3, Netscape 2, Billfisher 5, Nalu 2, Ron M 1, Skein 2, Riverliver 1, Fishboys 2, Sea Sparrow 2, Fishgitter 2, Maverick 1, Cloud Nine 2, Sea Squid?, Doryfisherman 2, Bigliar 1 , Fishplay 1, Mr. Fisherman 3, Sandman 1, Netfun 1, Sea Jypzee 1, Oceanblue 3, BIG SLAB! 1, Woody 2, Cliff 1, Birdman 4, Sea Jay 2, Northriverrick 2, Arima Jim 4, Trollin 2, LQQASTAR 2, Bugflicker 2, Kenai 2, Puffin=2 by himself! , Bait o' Eggs?, and JENNIE & BILL + a whole lot more.Come on down to the best party on the coast!!!! I will edit this update frequently as I get new numbers. Would ideally like to have a good solid idea of attendees by 8 July, but drop-ins will not leave hungry! See Ya, Charlie.

Sandman - Kids are invited, this should be a family thing for everyone. Bring your camera too, this would be a good chance to get a pix onboard our boats (if you like). We will have several of our Lifeboats open for tours and also Chief Sparkman (OinC Depoe Bay) will be bringing his 30' Surf Rescue Boat down (it is the last one in the Coast Guard). R

Ho'boy...can't believe I "lost" some of my favorite Dog's!!
Sorry Thuan, Ray, Greg!!!!! Ray, don't feel like you have to bring soooooo much grub. So far almost everyone is bringing something tasty, so we should be ok on quantity. Conversely, your cooking reputation and obvious "qualifications" make me want to make sure and get a little of what you bring . Looking forward to meeting some new faces too!!! I'm starting to get fired up!!!!

Charlie, Team Kismet will be there (3 at this point - possibly 4)
We'll bring something tasty. Hopefully some "catch o' the day"... But definitely a dessert, I think, since I don't think there's much of that on the menu at this point. Apple Pie anyone? Maybe even some of my famous smoked albacore caesar salad. ![]() BTW, we ran into the Chief in Depoe on Sat. Let's think about alternating this event each year. Next year the Hole in the Wall gang wants to host

Not to worry Ray. Spoke with them and at least 10 will be attending. Some are in training, and 7 or 8 are on duty.
Looking forward to visiting with you soon. Take care, Charlie.

Sounds like there will be a ton of food. Maybe some "to go" containers could be put together for the Depoe bay guys/gals that can't make it down.

Good Morning All, THREE DAYS AND A WAKEUP! I just wanted to remind eveyone of the shortage of parking at the Coast Guard Station and recommend that you consider parking at South Beach Marina. If you need to drop off fresh fish, grills, chili, fresh fish, sodas, oh did I mention fresh fish, come by the staiton first and drop your gear off. We have two entrances, a lower entrance off Bay Blvd and an upper entrance on Naterlin Drive. The BONUS for parking at South Beach is that we will provide transportation to the Station via either the Motor Lifeboat Victory, a 47' MLB, or the 30' Surf Boat. We will provide the appropriate PFDs, and the "inflight" movie will The Poseidon Adventure... We will start transporting at 1315 for those early arrivals and hopefully about every 10 minutes after that. I've asked King Neptune for nice weather for the event so be nice when you go out. See you on Saturday.

Hey Stickfish...just cross the bridge and take the first right around and back under the bridge. As you loop around, on your left is a road that heads into a big parking lot. Head north and park. The boatramp is no longer open, but the dock on the SE side, below the Rogue Brewery near where the Discovery tour boat ties up is the place they'll go.
See ya, Charlie

WildHawg's right so follow his directions. Please identify yourself as a Salty Dog so that we are picking up the right people and not any "strays." I'd like to try and pick everyone up on the Rogue "side" where the Discovery usually ties up. It is the dock closest to the parking lot. Either way just come on down to the CG Lifeboat and tell us that you are a Salty Dog and we'll bring you aboard. Although we do work for the Department of Homeland Security we will not be running you through the X-Ray Machine, heck we won't even have you remove your shoes. The Victory can carry the most with about 15-20 in "First Class," the 47' MLBs only have "coach" so its to the back of the bus on that boat, and the 30' Surf Boat, well you'll probably have to hang over the side... See you on Saturday. R
