I'm having coffee on my deck, and enjoying the rays of Palm Springs. Going soon for the free continental breakfast, then over to my sister's "movie star" mansion that they rented for the party.
I'm taking the risk that no one will spill the beans to my Dad, who is celebrating his 80th birthday, and doesn't know that his entire family is here to surprise him!
This will be SO fun!
We took a picture of him, pasted it to cardboard, and cut it out and made masks with them. Over 50 of them. When he walks in, the daughter that he almost lost will be playing the piano with one pasted to the back of her head, and everyone else will be holding one over their faces. How funny! Lots and lots of Dad's around here!
We also all gathered pictures of our past childhood, and of all family events, made them bigger and in black and white and made a 12 foot collage!
His lady friend bought him a ride in a World war two open cockpit plane! He had so much fun and had to call me to tell me! How funny that we talked and he had NO idea that I was actually in the same town as he! LOL. This is TOUGH keeping the secret! He asked me why I wasn't home, and I told him I had to finish getting my root canal in Portland. Yikes. Quick thinking, Jen!
Tomorrow, my sisters and I are going to a spa to get "spa-ed". I have never done that, but I think I could use something like that!
Then, I come home. Dang... I'd sure like to extend this vacation. My sisters are staying for 10 days. Must be nice!
On the flip side, please pray for Andrew's little baby sugar glider, Phoebe. I took her to an exotic pet vet, (cha ching) and she has a mass in her stomach. This is very, very difficult to deal with when I am out of town. Should we spend the money to do surgery? I say no, but every time I do, Andrew is clearly very, very depressed. He's had SO much to deal with for a kid. I so much would love to save Phoebe for him and not break his heart. But... surgery on a sugar glider??? Prayers... that is what he needs.. Or both of them.
OK, off to breakfast, and then over to my sisters to prepare for the party. Oh yeah, and I get to meet for lunch with a marfan friend of mine who plays in a band with Peter Tork of "The Monkeys". They have a band called "Shoe Suede Blues". His name is Richard Mikuls. Very nice guy. You can look him up on the net. He's a very talented guitarist and I met him for the first time 10 years ago. He's the only guy I know that knows what it is like to have a St. Judes valve in his chest.

Glad to see your Dad is doing well. He was A.D. at the high school when I graduated ('81). I drive by your old house on third street all the time. Be glad you live on your river. Canby is getting way to big and crowded. You and your Dad would never recognize the entry into CUHS...no stairs going to upper B 'cause there is no B hall, no upper or lower. Of course the fire danger is considerably less without it :smile:.

I'm home. It was... an interesting trip.
It was made very complicated by the sick sugar glider, and the short, short duration of the trip. It was mostly travel, and I'm exhausted!
Also, Andrew's sugar glider, Phoebe, was put to rest this morning. That's really tough. I promised myself I wouldn't cry when I picked her up from the vet, but... I failed, big time.
It's pretty sad around here, right now. :depressed:
At least Kilchis has a waggly tail to see me!

Bill is out burying her in the pet cemetary, along with Andrew's other lost pet, "Chicky baby" his favorite chicken.
Anyhow... Life is short. It is crushing to lose a pet, but I'll say first hand... it's worth it all in the end. We loved her so much!
