Went fishing today in Astoria. Several volunteers all with too many fins .. and then there was the 26 footer .. it was not getting away. 1980 Carver Santa Cruz with 8 foot beam. Soon to be commisioned as a TUNA! carking station for duty patrolling the Oregon coast and repelling the TUNA! suicide bomber invasion that plagues our coast every season. We were looking at this style boat several times over but they all sold before we could even get a look. This one has very nice appointments and excellent condition. Features include flybridge, dual stations, new electric start 4 stroke 25 horse Yamaha kicker, huge space under deck with open access to the engine and nice interior, v berth nice electronics and well 2 of everything except the kitchen sink.
More later and we are off to Newport now to cark some TUNA! on the OPB plan. Now all we need is a dodge 1992 or 1993 with cummins turbo diesel that will tow this beast. Cabin interior from cockpit. ![]() Dining table Kitchen sink ![]() Cockpit from flybridge. ![]() Cabin again .... Flybridge ladder Bridge ![]() My hero ...

Stern view. Yes this is only a 26 footer.
Starboard side. Front view. Love the name ... we are not changing it. It is better to be lucky than good. We removed the sign. Take care of our boat Neal .. until we can find a truck to haul it with. Anyway ... it was time for a boat upgrade and mainly due to the persistence of my partner .. our dreams were realized today. She wanted the full meal deal and I got to help her figure out what that was. The realy cool thing about the ocean is that when you go fishing .. you never know what you will catch. Thank you sweetie .. I will do my best to make this boat the stuff of dreams for you and the family. Peace .. out.

Wow, I am so happy for you guys. A little tear came to my eye when I read your post.
If there is ANYTHING I can do, say the word. I can pull that boat with my old Ford if you need to get it back over to the valley.

Birdman, that padded seat is for cruising and was there for the "showing" today. It comes out for TUNA! fishing and the tote goes in
No worries about the fish mojo. I no sooner let out my line and set it in the holder when it got bit by a nice native silver. That dog will hunt just fine!

I don't even know you but for your informative posts, knowledgeable reputation and overhearing reverent radio references from others off Newport, but that new boat looks like it is perfect for you and your partner. Was also impressed by your underwhelming subject title (Went salmon fishing .. got a big one)!
Good sailing,

![]() Been waiting and wondering what you'd end up with. Seems a boat like that is all you'll need. I'm sure someone 'up there' has a truck that'll get her to water (for a seat of course). Or... You can park her at my place and I'll tow her wherever you want to go (for that same seat, of course). Congrats! ![]() M-Y

How much fuel does she hold?
What is she powered by? Looks like a nice boat. I hope she brings happiness to her new owner(s). Does she have a top for the flybridge? Will that swim step handle the half tote when it is full of Tuna and ice? How many will she sleep? When do you take delivery? Have I asked enough questions? Congrats you two...

Dude, Way to go!!!
Just imagine what the dock at Newport is going to be like next year with all the dogs moored up there. I'll bring the lime. You mean you aren't towing it with the Chevy? I can't believe you still haven't sold the Pilar, someone needs to step up and buy it.

So this is how up grading works. One and a half time's the old one.
I am going to try this one on the wife and see what she says. I have great confidence it will work though. Congrats on the new toy.

Congradulations John looks very nice. Another Ifisher at Newport always welcomb. 26 ft. is a nice size and fuel consumption isn't to bad either. By the way what powers that boat gas diesal, inboard, sterndrive? Gallo0ns of fuel capacity. cumon fill us in on the little details.

Hey Mr. Fisherman and to all thank you for the kind words. I am happy to report no boat regret and the happiest day of any pair of boater's lives was followed by another day just the same.
We went out with NorRivDave who runs a very 1st class fishing boat on the Pursuit and just hammered the TUNA! at N44.31 by W125.02. 26 pigs with fins of very fine grade, 25 lbs average. Now the real work begins. Oh and we got a truck today from Fishplay. She drove it home and was overheard singing going down I-5. Anyway about the 'Kismet' ... I'll answer Mr. Fisherman's questions as they sum up all the others. ~Fuel is (1) 120 gallon tank amidships. ~The power is heat exchanger cooled 260 horse 350 chevy V-8 with about 1000 hours on it on an Alpha One mercruiser outdrive, the outdrive was recently rebuilt. The motor is original and looks like you could eat off it. The 25 horse pushes the boat easily at 7 to 8 mph and this should work for a low burn rate on the TUNA! troll. The deck is high and covers the entire engine compartment just like on Keta's boat. You can curl up next to the motor on either side or front and stretch out to sleep and you can get around without hitting your head. All parts of the motor are easily accesible. My comment after seeing the huge engine room and the condition of the motor was. The chief engineer is very happy ~The flybridge has a Bimini top which is also new. We ran without it on a pretty snotty CR bar and got no water up that high so I do not think it will be anymore than a sunshade. This boat just flies at 3600 rpm cruising at 28 to 30 mph with ease. I did not get it all the way to the firewall because it was faster than my experience driving a big boat like this would allow me to do. My comment after crossing the bar was The skipper is very happy ~The swimstep was added by the most recent owner as well as the bracket and power tilt setup for the Yamaha 25 horse 4 stroke. This replaced a full width teak swimdeck. The new 1/2 swimstep is designed for 400 pounds and should accomodate a 150 full of ice and TUNA! easily. I would not put a tote there and it was on the boat for the test ride. ~I'm guessing it will sleep 3. Two in the V-berth and one on the table berth. It fishes 4 so one guy on watch to look out for those pesky freighters while drifting under moonlight offshore. ~We get 'Kismet' on Friday. Most likely it will go into 'MissBhaven's' winter quarters in Scappoose for a couple of weeks of get to know ya and some shakedown runs. Both of us have alot to learn and this is the biggest boat I have ever dealt with. Whew .. now for the coolers full of TUNA! See you guys later and does it get any better than this? I mean really .. if it did I don't know if I could handle the pegged funmeter. It's not a project in any sense of the word and as soon as we get our wings and learn enough we will be hunting again. The boat is ready now but the boaters have alot to learn. Next year for sure. Psssstttt ... The kids don't know yet .. don't tell em ... I think we might be taking them on a surprise boat camping trip next weekend on the shakedown.
