It is closed Jan 1 to Feb 28 and Nov 24 to Dec 31.

Open Mar. 1-Nov. 23.

Not doubting you guys but do you have a source for that? The 2014 regs say it closes, was there an ODFW press release for that or something from ODFW saying so?

Sometimes I question ODFW... No wait, that's all the time.

The 2014 regulations are on line. The way I read them I wouldn't be fishing Hagg until March 1st 2014 or after November 23, 2014 unless ODFW has something somewhere in writing that is contrary to this.

http://www.dfw.state.or.us/fish/docs..._v11-18-13.pdf

That is the link to Willamette Zone regulations. If you scroll down to page 11 of 19 (page 53 of the book)the last entry is Henry Hagg Lake. The regulations are below.

Henry Hagg Lake (Washington Co.)

Closed Jan.1-Feb.28
and
Nov.24-Dec.31.

Open Mar.1-Nov.23
.

One bass per day.

Limit of twenty (20)crappie
per day; no length limit and 2 daily limits in possession

Surprisingly, the ODFW has had little say on Hagg lakes' opening and closing, from what I've heard. Washington County has been closing it for some reason.

The RUMOR is that it will be open year 'round once it opens in March, as it should be.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

I'd like to see these rumors in writing. A rumor is a crappy defense for a violation.

The lake itself is a BOR project, but the park (surrounding lands) is managed by Washington County. They may choose to keep the park open year-round, but there would have to be a change in fishing regulations to keep fishing year-round.

Heard the same thing. Hoping it's true, won't hold my breath.

Withe the addition of the campground this year, it makes sense to open it year round. Plenty of folk would use the park, and they don't really need to maintain full time staffing in the winter. Someone to do a trash pickup every few days and maybe check on the bathrooms would be fine. The Sheriff still has to patrol the area even in the off season, and they don't maintain a water born presence season-long anyway. Gaston Fire has their shiny boat close by in case of the need for a water rescue (or recovery).

The feds never installed a fish ladder like they were supposed to when the dam was built - so it's not like there are salmon/steelhead runs in the lake that would need protected either.

Here's hoping it's more than just a rumor.

So is the campground going in for sure? Last I saw it was just under consideration.

http://www.oregonlive.com/hillsboro/...templates.html

All the year round fishing rumors seem to trace back to the store near the lake. Another source for confirmation would be nice.

My hopes are high but I need something solid.

I have one of the copies of the original plans put out for the the county and it called for 4 boat ramps with several docks several more campgrounds for overnight and several more parking areas for day use. What is there now is just a drop in the bucket for what they started out to build. If I can I will scan a map or two and post it

I like the way they have it now. Gives the lake a chance to recover. Camp grounds would be a mistake imo. as well. Gets crowded enough already. The lake already opens early, because the bass fisherman want to fish pre spawn small mouth. Not early enough?? Opening day is one of my favorite times to fish the lake. Gives us something to look forward to.(besides turkey and salmon) Don't want to see that go away.

Even though I don't have a lot of experience fishing this lake, I think opening it all year would pretty much kill the great fishing they have on the opener. Yea it would nice to be able to fish for stockers all year but I would much rather catch nice hold overs that are actually decent table fare in the spring. All of those stockers that have managed to survive the season get nice and fat over the winter.

Yes, before the dam was built Scoggins Creek had a good run of steel head and salmon. When the dam was build the fish would stack up at the bottom and ODFW trapped them and said they were transplanting them to the Tualatin River. My dad watched them dump most of the fish out in a field in Gaston. So I don’t know if a fish latter was installed now if the fish would come back or not but it would be nice to see those fish back. There is a lot of good spawning ground up Scoggins creek and Sain Creek.

I remember fishing Scoggins Creek for Steelhead and Cutthroat Trout in the days before the day when visiting friends that lived up in the valley above the mill... I also remember see them in the pool below the dam and unable to get up, beating themselves against the spill way water for hours. Have not seen that in many years now, but did hear the rumors that they were 'collected and relocated to an open field' for several years in an effort to eliminate the run!
I really hate the fact that someone else heard the same rumor about the fish dumping! I know back in 1974-78 there were several Hatcheries that raised 'excess' smolts and did the same thing in the fields out by the Mist-Brikenfeld area above Vernonia. My Dads field received 'fish dumps' twice that I know of back in 1976... I believe they came from the old Necanicum Hatchery or one in that area.

I agree... and if they do raise the dam higher, it should be manditory that they install a fish ladder AND continue to stock the lake!!!
