Trout Stocked for Youth Fishing Event near Tillamook TILLAMOOK - Young people interested in learning how to fish can find a great fishing opportunity Saturday, Aug. 7, at Whiskey Creek Hatchery along Netarts Bay. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is stocking 600 rainbow trout for the event at Whiskey Creek Hatchery as part of the new Youth Angling Enhancement Program. The Tillamook Anglers, the volunteer group that runs the hatchery, is supplying rods and reels for fishing. ODFW is providing the bait, ice and bags to transport the catch home. Cold drinks also will be provided. The event begins at 9 a.m. and activities will run until 2 p.m. Volunteers from Tillamook Anglers will be on hand to help kids with fishing techniques. Children may bring a clean, plain t-shirt and participate in fish printing. In addition, members of the Tillamook Estuaries Partnership will be on hand to demonstrate water quality testing and discuss the importance of healthy watersheds. The program was made possible through a $50,000 appropriation from the Oregon Legislature and a partnership with the Oregon Wildlife Heritage Foundation, which has pledged an additional $50,000 and is working with ODFW to develop and promote youth fishing opportunities throughout the state. "This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce children to the fun of fishing and encourage participation in outdoor recreation activities," said ODFW Director Lindsay Ball. "A lot of credit goes to the Oregon Wildlife Heritage Foundation for all their hard work and financial contributions to help make this event possible." Any children age 13 and younger are welcome to participate. Regular angling regulations and bag limits apply. "This is being done for kids, so while the standard fishing regulations will apply, we would like to ask adults to leave the fishing to the next generation for a few days," said Dan Van [potty mouth], ODFW biologist. Whiskey Creek Hatchery is located along Netarts Bay just south of Tillamook, on Netarts Bay Road. ### Information and Education Division Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (503) 947-6002

Bill and I will be there, if we can! Will let you know, soon!
This was posted late in the week. Let's keep it bumped so that the Monday crowd can take a look, and maybe help out, too! Jen

Well, I guess I'll give you a call, Jerry!
I'm so bummed. Today was my fishing day. I was so excited! Woke up to winds up to 40. Thought we'd go anyway, but got halfway there, saw the bay, and said NO WAY! So, we came home to wait till afternoon. It's now 4, and it's still 40 mph!!! We'd like to go fishing tomorrow so badly, but we promised to help. So, I'll give you a call and I'm sure, when the day is done, I'll be very glad I did! I always forget how much fun these are, until you are there!!! ![]() Jen

Off to shower, and then to the Whiskey Creek Hatchery. It's not too late to bring your kids down to have some fun!
Come on down, either to lend a helping hand, or to take part in this fun event! Jen

I took some great pics of little ones with their fishes! I'll share later. Who says I can't do both? I'm going fishing now! Jen

I would like to have attended but unfortunately I never read this thread. I would suggest in the future that you post something to the effect of "Tillamook Anglers need help". I'm always up for that if there is any way possible.
Thanks to the Tillamook Anglers for always giving back to the kids. What an awesome group. ![]() See you on September 11th!! ![]() And Pete, I'm not trying to slam you. You do a great job keeping us informed. I'm just thinking of eye catching advertising for us simpletons.

I did make it out to Tillamook last night, but not till 6 p.m. I'll try and do better next time. Hehe, for what it's worth I spent all my mad money at the Guide Shop on the way home though. At first I thought it was at least a small act of contrition, then I remembered how good dinner on the balcony was and how much I'm gonna enjoy cooking with my new cedar board. Then I felt guilty again. Maybe today I'll just stay home and flog myself with a cat o' nine tails or something. LrgCampfires |
