I've got the shirts in again this year, and hope to sell every one in time to help put a dent in the snagging and poaching problem.
For those who don't know the shirt, here's a pic of it. This on on the back of the shirt and the cool ifish logo on the front in deep green. The short and long sleeve shirts are ash color (light natural grey) PRICES ARE: 5.50 for short sleeve, 6.50 for XXL 7.50 for long sleeve, 9.00 for XXL, 10.00 for XXXL I also have a few sweatshirts, they are all XL and are 13.50 Shirts will be available to pick up from me in SE portland, both fisherman's marine locations. July 8th (thurs.) at DELTA PARK (12-8pm), also at Tillamook bait shop. I'LL ALSO SELL AT IFISHSTOCK, so if you want to pick up then let me know and I'll reserve one. For those who already odered, I'm make a list and hold your order. I only have about 200 to sell, so act fast. If anyone can help by buying a bunch and help sell in there own area, that would be great. PM me if you are interested. Thanks for the support of a good cause that impacts all us sportsman. GBS

This may be a little off the topic of No Snagging shirts but it is related. I was up fishing at Faraday (upper Clackamas) the other day and I ran into a couple gentleman my father works with. Dad said these guys are always bringing home fish and catch all they want. So I decided to go check it out. After a moring of loosing a lot of tackle and only hooking one fish I was a bit frustrated. The two gentleman I connected with had been skunked also that morning. I thought it must not be just me. The two gents told me they were going to leave. I said good-bye and kept fishing (there were a pile of steelies in front of me and I was trying to get them to bite). I noticed that one of them fished for a bit longer then sat on a rock in the river and made a call on his cell phone. Then those two guys came back down the trail and next to the river about 30 yards downstream from me and I could tell (the less fisherman-looking one was trying to hook a fish right in front of himself) they were snagging. I walked down to get a look. I stood directly behind him as his treble-hook with weight on it went under the fish and he jerked to no avail. He flipped his line back out and said "there's a steelhead laying right there" and at that same moment he yanked side-ways, and hooked the fish near the anal fin. I was disgusted. These were fifty-year-old men! Not young and dumb, or immature teenagers. I could not believe it! I just thought, don't these guys ever grow up? It got worse when they landed the fish the two foggies high-fived and shook hands doing the thumb-embrace, as if they had achieved some lofty goal. The worst part of all this is that I walked out with no fish and when I got to the top to the canyon I was confronted by a state policeman sying he had recieved a call about a couple guys down here snagging. I told him what I had saw and he checked my liscense and told me of a snagger he knew about. I hope he gets them.
I just had to tell this story, It has been bothering me since it happened. Gues I'll have to get a no snagging shirt to let people know my position.

Well this may not be a secret but as long as your on the topic. I go to the Situk river in Ak every year and am shocked to see all these people fly fishing with splitshot and mono and a little bit of yarn on a 2/0 hook. Not only that but the guides there promote it, these are not sockeye but steelhead and very nice ones to boot. The guides take theyre sleds and blow the fish out from under the side of the banks and the fish start to gasp as they are breathing so hard, when the the fish opens theyre mouth they tell the clients to set the hook. How can this possibly be going on? I have seen people up there doing this who are very well known in the fishing world and it really makes me sad.

Pathetic!
And I always assumed guides were educated enough to set good examples.

Most clients look at guides not to teach ethics but to get them into fish. The guides need return customers so this is one way to insure their clients are happy. It may not be right but I can't count how many times guides have worked me out of a hole or put me in a pinch between their boats in the fall. Guides are not always necessarly the most ethical people, just like others.

Hey greenbuttskunk, Since you live in SE Portland how about bringing some shirts by the Woodstock library meeting room on the 21st between 6:30 and 7:45 PM? Portland Chapter NW Steelheaders meeting there at that time. Should be at least a few fishermen there.

I wear mine when ever I go fishing. Lately it has been under my coat because of the weather.
When AndyK and I floated the Trask the other day we got to a pocket in the river where I got out of the boat with my 4 wt to fish for Cutts. There were five guys there fishing and they looked paranoid. While I was there they hooked Six fish. Big Chinooks but everyone I saw was fouled hooked. One was a nice bright fish but they turned it lose. I got the feeling that they weren't happy that I was there. So When Andy got to me with the boat I turned around and took my coat off. There is no missing that sign. I wore it out the rest of the day. After awhile you forget you have it on. We need an Anti Snagging rain gear. I wore it in the store at fishermans the other day now that I think about it. I guess I forgot I had it on. I keep seeing a vision in my mind of an Anti Snagging Tee shirt with Bullet Holes.

I love the shirt, I hate snaggers. I have a question though, do you have any made up with Caltip's number on it? I would love to hand out handfulls of the shirts on the Sacramento river. As a guide I make every effort to teach my clients about ethics in the outdoors. I have a talk with each group about foul-hooked fish and the other laws that pertain to our outings. I know of other "professionals" who somehow seem to miss that speach..... Anyhow if you have some or can make some let me know,
thanks GBS for the pro-active no snagging stance fishmaster731
