I had more fun writing on the front page, today!
I took love poems, and replaced the "love" meaning, with fishing. Here are some that I came up with! I can't believe how true I believe them to be! Fishing really is my true love! See if you can come up with some of your own! -Better to have fished and hurt, then to never have fished at all. -After all, some people will die for fishing, Others will die because they lost it. - Other men said they have seen angels, But I have seen fishing And thou art enough. -I love fishing - those three words have my life in them. - You will never know true happiness until you have truly fished, and you will never understand what pain really is until you have lost it. - So dear I love fishing that with it, All deaths I could endure. Without rod in hand, live no life. - I have fished to the point of madness; That which is called madness, That which to me, Is the only sensible way to fish. -One word frees us Of all the weight and pain in life, That word is fishing And my very, very favorite, from this day forward: Age does not protect us from fishing, But fishing to some extent protects us from age. Whoo hoo! I love that one!

Yes, I am nuts!
So nuts, and I love these kinds of things SO much, that I am going to start a contest! I have an Okuma Convector CN 20L that I'm going to give out, to the person who comes up with the best Love/Fishing quote on this thread. The end time is tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM. I, Jennie, will pick out my favorite THREE. I may have help from the moderators, or it may just be me. Not sure. After I choose three or so, of my favorites, I will create a poll, and all ifishers may vote on those three. The winner will be the quote that touches your feelings and passion for fishing, the most. Ready, Set... start up your fishing passion and love quotes~! THEY MUST BE G RATED!!!! Jen

Entry # 1:
"Let those fish now, who never fished before; Let those who always fished now fish all the more." Extra credit for rhyming, right? Entry #2: "And you learn that fishing, true fishing, Always has joys and sorrow, Seems ever present, Yet is never quite the same, Becoming more than fishing and less than fishing, So difficult to define. And you learn that through it all, You really can endure, That you really are strong, That you do have value." Kinda sums it all up ... the joy brought on by landing a huge fish, the agony brought on by "almost" landing a huge fish. It also defines how fishing tests your internal fortitude, and your will to go on, vis-a-vi your love for your own spirit. Okay, Jennie. It's wearing off on others now. How many people do you suspect you can sucker into becoming "nuts" with you? D$ |

Ok- I'll bite!
#1 Fishing in it's truest form has no language or words, it just has a thousand and one actions we all wish we could describe. #2 Fishing is like pi - natural, irrational, and very important. I guess the second one is inspired by the engineer in me.

Then it was said, Speak to us of Fishing.
And the prophet raised his head and looked upon the people, and there fell a stillness upon them. And with a great voice he said: When fishing beckons to you, follow him, though his ways are hard and steep. And when his net enfolds you, yield to him, though the sword hidden among his fins may wound you. And when he speaks to you, believe in him, though his voice may shatter your dreams as easily as the north wind lays waste the pond. For even as fishing crowns you, so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth, so is he for your pruning. Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun, so shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth. Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself. He sifts you free from your husks. He grinds you to whiteness and kneads you until you are pliant. And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become bread of the sacred feast. All these things shall fishing do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life’s heart. Think not you can direct the course of fishing, for fishing, if it finds you worthy, directs your course. Fishing give naught but of itself, and takes naught but from itself. Fishing possesses not, nor would it be possessed; for fishing is sufficient unto itself. Fishing has no other desire but to fulfill itself. When you fish, let these be your desires: to melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody, to the night. to know the pain of too much tackle. to be wounded by your own understanding of fishing; and bonk willingly and joyfully; to wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of fishing; to rest at the noon hour and mediate fishing’s ecstasy; to return home at eventide with dinner; and then to sleep with a prayer for your beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips. ~Kahlil Gibran

Here's a reverse from love/fish to fish/love:
Give a man love and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to love and you feed him for a lifetime. Bob

here are a few for you guys
![]() The cure for all the ills and wrongs, the cares, the sorrows and crimes of humanity, all lie in that one word "fishing." It is the divine vitality that produces and restores life. To each and every one of us it gives the power of working miracles, if we will. Fishing is something you and I must have. We must have it because our spirit feeds upon it. We must have it because without it we become weak and faint. Without fishing our self-esteem weakens. Without it our courage fails. Without fishing we can no longer look confidently at the world. We turn inward and begin to feed upon our own personalities, and little by little we destroy it ourselves. With it we are creative. With it we march tirelessly. With it and with it alone, we are able to sacrifice for others. Fishing is patient, Fishing is kind, true fishing will come; in a matter of time What is fishing but fishing Fishing is the sky Fishing can make you die Fishing is fear Anglers, shed tears That is fishing Fishing is always patient and kind; it is never jealous; fishing is never boastful or conceited; it is never rude or selfish; it does not take offense, and is not resentful. Fishing takes no pleasure in other people's sins but delights in the truth; it is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes. Fishing does not come to an end Fishing courses through everything, No, Fishing is everything. How can you say, there is no fishing, when nothing but Fishing exists? All that you see has appeared because of Fishing. All shines from Fishing, All pulses with Fishing, All flows from Fishing-- No, once again all is Fishing! It doesn't matter how long we may have been stuck in a sense of our limitations, If we go into a darkened room and turn on the light, it doesn't matter if the room has been dark for a day, or a week, or ten thousand years-- we turn on the light and it is illumined. Once we contact our capacity for fishing and happiness...the light has been turned on.

Not from this bait, anticlimax after
Refusal struck the fish and the river rocks Bent my rod to lap the singluar floods In a land strapped by hunger Shall she receive a bellyful of fish And bear those tendril hands I touch across The agonized, two seas. (apologies to Dylan Thomas) A stranger has come To share my river in the mountains not right in the head, an angler mad as birds. Bolting the night of the rod with her arm her plume. Straight in the mazed river She deludes the closed-mouthed fish with wispy flies. (again, apologies to Dylan Thomas.) happybrew

I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore,
Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more, But the Master of the sea, heard my despairing cry, From the waters lifted me, now safe am I. Fishing lifted me! Fishing lifted me! When nothing else could help Fishing lifted me! All my heart to Him I give, ever to Him I'll cling In His blessèd presence live, ever His praises sing, Love so mighty and so true, merits my soul's best songs, Faithful, fishing service too, to Him belongs. Fishing lifted me! Fishing lifted me! When nothing else could help Fishing lifted me! Souls in danger look above, Jesus completely saves, He will lift you by His love, out of the angry waves. He's the Master of the sea, billows His will obey, He your Savior wants to be, be saved today. Fishing lifted me! Fishing lifted me! When nothing else could help Fishing lifted me!

Suggestive? It was the way Thomas wrote it, but I didn't think it was suggestive the way I re-wrote it. But then, poetry is as much in the eyes of the reader as the writer.

I feel the pull.
I shake my head and throw my body, but I cannot free myself. I feel the pull. The river calls me, beckens me to come hither, now, immediatly. I must go. I feel the pull. The way is long, and full of obstacles that bar the way. But my love for the river is stronger than the thought of failure. I remember the way, somehow, someway. I feel the pull. All my childhood, I was taught how to survive, when to eat, when to be strong, smart, when to hide. I learned the deep pools, shallow waters, rapid water, where the rocks are. I know they are all still there, even after all this time. I feel the pull. I find the river is as it should be, cold, clear, strong, and full of life. I tremble in the chill of early dawn, in anticapation of what the day may bring. I sence a presence nearby. I feel the pull. I hurry to the pool, as though I am in a race. I love being the first one there, so guiet, peaceful. I make my first cast, and let the line go down deep into the pool. I feel the shake of the head, and the throw of the body, but he cannot free himself. I feel the pull. The love of this feeling is strong, it must be answered, always and unwavering. It takes me where I must go. I feel the pull. |

Fishing is the emblem of eternity: it confounds all notion of time: effaces all memory of a beginning, all fear of an end.

When I awoke this morning, dove beneath my floating home. Down below her graceful side in the turning tide to watch the seafish roam
