Default Coos Bay/Coquille Salmon Report?

I have been out in Coos Bay three times in the past week. A few hookups on Sunday, but it seems the fish moved on up since then. Has another group of fish moved into the bay? I went by the Marshfield Channel today and saw about 60+ boats out there. Do they know something I don't or are they just trying their luck? Have heard of a few being caught, but it seems to be still pretty slow. We did get some rain yesterday and maybe that has influenced another group of fish to move on in. Anyone else have any reports for the area?

I talked with the fish bio from coos bay a little while ago and he was telling in general the middle of Sept is the peak of the run. But he was talking about the Coquille River and I would imagine that is pretty much true with most of the southern rivers.

Historically our best week is the last week in September or the first week in Oct on the Coquille. I'm not sure if that's the peak of the run or when the water really starts too cool and the fish really bite

Id rather spend more time fishing in Oct on the Coquille than I would in Aug and early September

Coquille was slow for most today, a couple of fish by the 101 bridge early. We did manage 2 in the afternoon further up, a 28lb and a 22 lb. Both on blue label herring.

The only place I know of is seven mile slough, it gets to be pretty shoulder to shoulder in there. Fish the outgoing tide.

All the south coast rivers peak at different times. TH knows his stuff! Last time I was on the Coquille was the 26th and 27th of August. A few fish around, but not many. It was still better than the Rogue on the 28th and 29th though. The Coquille is a beautiful place to fish, one of my favorites for sure. Hope to get back over there toward the end of the month for the salmon and crab combo. Good luck out there South Coast Ifishers.

Seems the Bay picked up this weekend pretty good. Saw some good fish being caught, but that was in the "Battle Boats" section of the bay. I am still trying to figure out how everyone keeps from getting hung up on each other. Sheesh!

coos is full of fish but with that comes the crowds
coquille has some fish but not the numbers as the coos right now
coquille water temp is a few degrees warmer than normal for this time of year
the south wind warmed the ocean last week wish in turned pushed warmer water into the river on the bigger tides.

the coos estuary is much deeper than the coquille which allows those fish to acclimate much easier and in turn bite more aggressively.

The coquille will pick up in the weeks to come I have no doubt.

I've got a buddy coming up from Dallas Texas to fish chinooks with me next week (Tuesday-Thursday). My normal stomping grounds is Winchester Bay (ocean and up river to Reedsport). I've heard the bite slowed considerably this past week. I am thinking of running down to the Coos tomorrow on an exploratory trip and fish it for the first time. Where would be a good place to start fishing? Where would be the best place to put in (California Street Boat Ramp or North Spit Boat Ramp)? Would fishing the afternoon incoming tide be a good bet?

Put in at California street or Eastside boat ramp. The incoming tide should be good. Play bumper boats in the marshfield channel or go through all the boats and troll at Somar's(barge repair place).
