Default Costco stopped carrying my favorite socks!

After several trips to different stores, I've confirmed my worst fear: Costco no longer carries my favorite Russell socks. They were synthetic, soft, wicking, affordable, and oh so comfortable...

Ok. Socks are very important. Not sure if they are for hunting boots or what not.
But her is some golden advice. Buy Fits socks. Google them. Just trust me.

Don't listen to these fellas, BTA. I too have developed a liking for these socks over the years and then just like that, when I need a new 12 pack, they're gone. The comfort of these socks was far and above the average sock (you guys can keep your Gold Toes, they're garbage) and in my eyes all socks would long to one day approximate the comfort they provided. And they were relatively inexpensive to boot. ( <-- pun intended )

Apparently these days it's all about sport/athletic socks. High performance, sheer, wicking, dare I say it, man-stockings.

If you find a good replacement, I'd love to hear about them.

I feel your pain. They quit carrying catfish down here in Medford about a year ago. Tilapia is garbage.

I'm not sure if those are the ones that BTA is talking about, but Costco apparently quit carrying them. They were the Kirkland brand. I have a drawer full of them that are starting to wear out, and I'm having anxiety attacks about trying to find replacements.

They also quit carrying Jif peanut butter.

I am mighty perturbed.

Yea the ones with the red stripe on the toe are gone. But the head socks with the grey bottoms are almost as good.
With Costco if you like something buy a lot of it. It goes away as their suppliers get better deals elsewhere after they get a following at costco

Hey! You guys making light of a person bemoaning the loss of their favorite footwear must not spend much time on their feet, or are still youngsters!

Socks, and work boots, are VERY important to some of us!

Couldn't agree more. Socks are critical to me about 8 months out of the year. The world can be crumbling around me but I can keep chugging away as long as my feet are warm, dry and comfortable. I rarely wear them from June through September (sport sandals or Crocs and neoprene booties, shorts and wading shoes for the water), but I absolutely REQUIRE the right socks when it's cooler out. Merino wool/alpaca blend for me. The Cosco ones are OK for backups, but I lean on the same Ebay seller every year to replenish my supply of the ones I really like.

I didn't read the dates prior to reading this thread and the only thing I though to contribute was that Costco does carry Jif peanut butter. I saw it in there yesterday.

I too was bummed when they quit carrying those socks. I replaced them with the model that is grey on the bottom and toe. I think they are actually more comfortable and like them better. Dont remember the brand. Think it was HEAD or something.

Too funny this thread came back up. Just this morning I was going through my sock drawer and lamenting the fact that I am also out of the old Russell Costco socks. Still haven't found anything that I like as much. I am wearing a pair as I type this. If someone has a line on a comparable sock I would be all ears. The grey toe/heal with the red stripe are a far second in my opinion. The other socks Costco sells are way too thin.

Welcome to shopping at Costco. We buy cottonelle toilet paper there frequently. They however "discontinue" it between sales. One month they have it, the next they don't. With some of the stuff they carry like that, you just learn to stock up when they have it.

I too miss the costco socks and haven't found any that feel as good as a brand new pair of costco socks. We have learned the hard way that if you like something there expect to get "costco'd" where they discontinue it.

Recently in Hillsboro, they did bring back our favorite salsa that had been missing for years. We would get it when we went to Hawaii as they still carried it, for those who haven't tried it "Jack's Special Salsa".

If you ever wonder if a product is going out of costco, they use a couple tricks to tell. First, anything with a .97 instead of .99 is clearance, and if there is an asterisk in the top right corner then it isn't being re-ordered.

The funny part is that Costco and their latin counterpart PriceSmart are not just a first world store:

As of 11 November 2015, Costco has a total of 674 warehouses:
United States (474)
Canada (89)
United Kingdom (26)
Australia (7)
Mexico (34)
Taiwan (10)
South Korea (12)
Japan (20)
Spain (2).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Costco

Costco products are sold in latin america as PriceSmart because Costco doesn't translate well. Same Kirkland brands and the stores are identical:

PriceSmart
Country Nr. of Stores
Aruba 1
Barbados 1
Colombia 6
Costa Rica 6
Dominican Republic 3
El Salvador 2
Guatemala 3
Honduras 3
Jamaica 1
Nicaragua 2
Panama 5
Trinidad and Tobago 4
U.S. Virgin Islands 1

Wow, I have been on an emotional roller coaster. I had spent the past 5 months getting back on my feet (see what I did there?) and then yesterday morning this thread was back on top! Risking a setback in my recovery, I opened it up and relived the pain but then saw a post saying the worlds greatest socks where back! I took a quick look around the house to see what else we needed from Costco and off I went. What did I find???? Some cheap Kirkland Signature knockoffs that were 64% cotton. Here I am back at Stage 1 of the grieving process, although I did grab a pack of the merino wool jobbers to try. And some croissants. And I now have polish dog burps

OMG! What do you use for TP in between costco sales?

The replacement they stock now is very good. I'm bummed because Costco hasn't carried my favorite short sleeved dress shirts in a year. Still waiting..... Costco in Mexico rocks!!!!! First time I was in one in Cabo San Lucas when it was new they were doing first rate tequila tasting with some very, very good brands. They just kept pouring... My wife was a little lit before we could get out of the store. Try finding that in your local Costco...

My heart bleeds for you BTA. All I remembered was there was a thread some time ago about the sock, didn't realize you were talking about a different sock. But it seems my bringing this up has helped a couple of other members, so I'm glad of that

I've confirmed my worst fear: Costco no longer carries my favorite Russell socks.
Try the new merino wool hiking socks. $12.99/4pr. I'm really liking mine as they're warm and breath well. Otherwise, I'd go Amazon for your Russells.

Think about it...pumpkin is a vegetable, so you're actually eating vegetable pie.

Feel good about the choice.
