Default Suggestion for a Kokanee/trout D/R rod blank

I asked this question on the trout/kokanee forum, and it was suggested to me to try here as well. So....

Folks,

I know this has been kicked around a lot before, but I want to add my own spin to this. Looking for a blank (I will make the rod) with the following specs:

1 piece
7 foot or 7' 6"
downrigger rod (so probably fiberglass)
primary use for Kokanee and trout
AND (here's the kicker) made in the USA

Ideas? Suggestions? Thanks in advance..... RT

Take a look at the Rainshadow RDR70L and the RDR 76L.

Both are a blend of graphite and glass.

Made for Kokanee on a downrigger.

Good blanks and for $40 a great value.

I know that they are built in china... but if you do decide to build them they will exceed you expectations. I built a pair over the winter, and trout/kok fishing has never been so much fun.

Check with Josh at Lamiglas. I know that Lamiglas has stopped building that part of their lineup that was made in china. He is their blank designer and can help you.

No problem.
I was reading your post on my phone and missed the USA part.

It might be a long shot - but send Mark Steffen an email. He makes fiberglass and graphite fly rod blanks (rolls them himself, he's in Arizona). His fly blanks are 2 or 3 or 4 pieces - but he might be able to fix you up with a custom one piece blank. Might cost you more than you're looking to spend - but you didn't put a price range, so I dunno.

You could probably make a killer downrigger rod out of a his 7' 3/4 weight fly blank. For a more powerful rod, he has a 7' 5 weight fly blank that would also be fun with the average size trout/kokes, but give you a bit more pulling power should you hook into a hawg.

Google Steffen Brother's Fly Rods. 2 piece blanks are $135, 3 piece $170, and 4 piece $200.

Also might try North Fork Composites (Gary Loomis) I was talking to him a couple of days ago about Kokanee rod blanks, It will be fall or winter before I investigate it further with him though. Probably not cheap but made in Woodland WA.
