Re: The "C" word
Jennie, I was sitting here this evening having quite an angry pity party for myself over something I felt was very personally challenging today. Then I read your thread and I should be ashamed of myself for not reminding myself of the emphathy that is necessary towards others with far bigger challenges. It seems much too easy for me to be completely within myself battling some issue and not attuned to the bigger fears and challenges others face. Now, Thanks to your sharing, I'm right there with you and can only hope something I might say could extend some strength to you. Not knowing you I can't lift a simple daily burden for you, but you will be in my thoughts and prayers. My Mother has survived three entirely different cancers in her life with the last one being the exact one you are defeating. She is 84 and in good health with 8 years behind her. I just know you will prevail and there will never be anything quite like the next big Steelie you catch. The feeling is going to rock your world.

Re: The "C" word
Thank you.... and don't do that guilt!! We ALL have people that seem to have bigger problems. Boy, have I learned THAT lesson!
But, I really believe that we all are given challenges equal to our ability to endure. It says that in the bible, somewhere, somehow.
But, bigger, smaller, who can measure that?
I will pray for your problems while you pray for mine and together we'll be all the stronger!

Re: The "C" word

It's not Murphy's Law, it's Marfan's law. Sometimes I wonder...
So, they usually put a "port" in your chest for the IV of chemo that they are giving me, because it is quite toxic to the skin. The nurse has to put on two pair of gloves to administer it. However, due to Marfan and my medical woes, they didn't want to do "another" surgery to put it in.
So.... They just did an IV and chose a course of only four treatments.
Today, after no symptoms at all in my IV arm, I notice it's swollen and bruised, all the way up my arm. I had noticed it sore for the last four days, but just chalked it up to Marfan weirdness and fishing too much. (Not much, but too much for a chemo tired over active sick girl! )
I took a look, after not being able to reach up in the cupboard to get something, and it's red, swollen, and hurts all the way to my armpit.
Call the Doctor and the Doctor said, "This usually doesn't happen till the third of fourth treatment. We were hoping, anyhow..
Wah. Why Marfan? Everything because of Marfan.
Waiting for a call back. It's about the size of a walnut, but so sore, I can barely extend my arm.
I wonder what they'll do? Man, that stuff must be poison!

Re: The "C" word
Jennie,
I am a cancer survivor, I think 20 years now since I was told I had testicular cancer.
I remember the fright, and the uncertainty.
I remember wondering what was going to happen to my family.
I remember the relief at a good report.
I remember the worry of the next test and pending report.
I remember the searing pain of the surgeries.
I will remember you before our Heavenly Father.
Try to keep with the positive attitude that I see in the majority of your postings.
Of course there will be bad days, and sad days, let them pass.
I will be praying for you.

Re: The "C" word
Jen, read your column today. So glad to hear that your in a good spot mentally and that the chemo hasn't been too bad physically. Learned quite a bit from what you wrote. And all this time I thought a brazilian was just a big number. LOL.

Re: The "C" word
Thanks, everyone!
I'm pulling up out the chemo blues.
But, I have an MRI of my brain, today, to make sure it isn't there.
Prayers?
Thanks! You guys do such miracles thru our heavenly Father!!

Jennie,
One of the benefits of chemo is when your hair grows back it will be curly. My wife's hair is like she just got a perm. A very expensive perm.

Re: The "C" word
Two more days until more chemo. This will be the third one. Then, I'll only have one left!
This last one was very hard and they gave me too much, so that I got something called hand and foot syndrome. They are done hurting now, but they are peeling so much!
It is like they got burned, chemically, I guess. So, they are lessening my dose, this next time. I hope that helps. I was one sick pup this last time.
Feeling better now, just in time for them to kick me down again! LOL... That's what it feels like! "Feeling good, Jen? We'll fix THAT!" LOLOLOL

Re: The "C" word
Pain is such an uncomfortable feeling that even a tiny amount of it is enough to ruin every enjoyment. The more serious the pain, the more important it is for you to fight back. There is no pain in thinking about the next big steelhead you are going to fight as you chase it down the bank so fast your dog can’t keep up with you, The music you are going to play, the Christmas you are going to spend with your love ones, the post you are going to read, the flowers you are going to plant...see no more pain.
Get better soon….The Sheltons

Re: The "C" word
Thank you for seeing me thru this, with your prayers!
I am all done with radiation and chemo!
Praise God!
I am in a lot of pain tonight, and could use your prayers.
Sorry to be so short, but pain takes the zip out of my doo dah.
Maybe I overdid it by fishing, this morning, but ever since, I have had bad pain around my surgical site.
I'll be ok. It's just getting thru till morning that I need help with.
Thank you!!

Re: The "C" word
Jen,
Last Friday night while walking around the track for Team Ta-Ta's at the Eugene-Springfield Relay for Life, I looked up at the beautiful night sky and said a prayer for ALL those who have suffered and survived Cancer, and one especially for you.
Our team raised $3721 for the Fight.

Hi Jen, I just had to say hi tonite, and my wife Marilou and I will pray for all of those that read the Chapel almost daily, that is the first thing i do.
