Default Can I add a tach to my outboard

I have a 2003 50hp Merc 4 stroke with remote controls. It does not have a tach which I would like to add. Does anyone know if this is possible and does anyone sell this as a kit or aftermarket?

Yes, and it should be easy to find, dealer, online, etc.

Should just plug right into the wiring harness if you buy a Merc unit.

There are also inductive tachs, they have a wire that wraps around a spark plug wire, and theoretically should work with any motor.
Just make sure you get one that has a replacable battery. Don't ask how I learned that lesson.

I have a newer (2007) 60hp and had the same interest. I found out that on mine you can buy a SmartCraft gauge that will do a lot of different stuff in addition to tach. Don't know if you want any other info. or not just thought I would let you know. I haven't done it yet but will probably in the next year or so.

Do you know if the Smart Craft is a plug and play, meaning does the existing Mercury control harness support a connection at the control head or does this mean I need to run another cable to the motor?
