I've used it for a couple of years now. I talk with friends and family all over the US and world with voice/view and it's fantastic, fun and free! I also use it for phone calls to land lines to friends that I might talk to for hours and hours so I don't use up my cell minutes, I think that costs $2.95 per mouth but the voice/view is free. I might suggest to have it turned off when not using it or it slows the speed down when surfing.

I use the free version, and talk Skype to Skype. It works great. I spent $20 on a headset to use for it. It didn't work as well with satellite internet (too much latency), but, it works great with cable and DSL.

Technically, I've found S->S works very well, and it is free... just need to arrange that parties are on line at the same time. Sound quality is usually better than weak/breaking cell phone connections.
My daughter took a trip to South Africa and we were planning to use Skpe, but it turned out that charges to access the internet in S.A. were excessive, so she just emailed instead. Frankly, Skpe and the other internet voice systems seem to me to be the way to go in the future... they just need to add a simple (free) way to send/receive faxes. The Mac's (and PC's ?) already have a way to receive faxes without a fax machine, but sending via internet is more difficult. (Or, does anyone have an easy way to use faxes without a 3rd party fee ?)

I've used it quite a bit. Works great. Better phone call quality than with my cell or landline.
It has some conferencing features which make it nice for small meetings, or just some friends getting together to gab or plan a hunt. I normally use the free Skype to Skype option, but have use the pay as you go option for calls from Skype to cell and landline phones, and the $10 dollars I started with has lasted many months. It's easy to add someone with a landline to a phone conference -- just call them and they are connected with everyone online. Skype now lets you share your screen so folks can see what you can see which is handy for working with documents. The quality isn't that great, but there's also an add on for a connection to Yugma which is a real conferencing program. Haven't needed it as any document can be sent via e-mail anyway and folks can open and look at it at the same time. I use a cheap boom mic and my pc speakers -- works better than the headset I had, but that is just my system. Wish it worked with my cordless phone, but if I wonder if the hands free bluetooth device I use with my cell would work with a PC bluetooth?

I use it in Iraq and it is ok for video voice. I pay $5.00 a month for unlimited phone calls from there home. Well it is not unloimited but 10,000 minutes woould never get used up. Most all of the guys in my company use it. Because of our internet speed it will cut off once in a while, but state side it works awesome. I highly recommend it.

I use google voice and I am really impressed with it. You can pre-program all of your phone # 's. When somebody calls your google # all of you phones ring till you pick one up. Free long distance in the us and cheap international calls.

Skype is good. I use the free version. Bought a 20 dollar head set. (important, IMO)
