Default Fishing with Danny Osuna...

I have read some very nice reports from his boats from other sites but wanted to know if any Ifishers have fished with Danny or his brothers out of PV?

I am booking a Cow tuna trip for the first week of NOV.

I have my boat down there, I talk to Danny a bit on the radio.

You can't go wrong with the Osunas. Danny's boat is the best of the several they have (Blackfin). He fishes hard, long days, and he is one of the fishiest guys down there (they call him the Osuna-seiner).

That said, the season has been off to a weird start. Big fish are there and an occasional one landed (our biggest thus far was 150), but some fish in the mid 200's have been caught. Water temp was 92 for awhile and fish sat below the thermocline. I hear it's down to 84, your timing is probably very good for this trip.

Good luck and please post a report!

I fished on one of the Marla boats last Nov. Was supposed to be one of the Osunas as captain, but another guy picked me up in the morning. Turns out the Osunas were decking on a private boat in a sailfish tournament that day. It worked out fine because the other guy subs for them alot and knows the way out to El Banco, but it was a surprize. We stayed at the La Cruz Inn in La Cruz. Great place and great food, too. I took my Calstar 760 M and Tiagra 50, and they had good gear on the boat, but they hadn't changed the line in a long time. I caught a 60# and a 30#, but the big fish of the day bit on one of their rigs and broke the line right away. I would tell them you'll pay for new line if they will respool the boat rigs. It's a long and expensive trip out to El Banco, and you don't want to loose a fish because of old line.

Todd at Bayside Marine in Santa Cruz goes with Danny and highly recommends him for BYT. He caught a IGFA record cow a couple years ago with Danny.

We have fished with the Osuna brothers for three years now. We posted pictures of last year's cow (234) but lost our big one this year after a 4/1/2 hr fight. We hit it semi-right this year with alot of luck considering this years conditions (up and down for the tuna until recently). What is predictable and consistent is that those three Osuna brothers (Danny, Alonso, and Scotty) will give you the max effort. We plan another trip with these guys next Nov. (was way too hot in Sept with the 90 degree water at el banco; so many billfish they were in the way of the tunas, but we got several 100 pounder YFT's). The price to go to el banco is spendy but equivalent to Cabo considering the distance you have to travel to get there. Save your pesos, they're worth it.
