Default OSU Tuna Oriented Website

Thanks to Ted Strub and Craig Risien at OSU we now have a Tuna Oriented Website:

At first they only had the SST and current info available. They have a "link for comments" so I emailed Ted these comments on 7/7/09:

"Comments: If we could get a Chlorophyll map in the same exact format (size, coordinances) as the Tuna SST, we could pinpoint the exact areas to go to. The idea is to print them out and overlay them to find the most distinct breaks for both temp and chloro. Thank you, Jerry Crofoot"

He emailed me and wanted additional info so I responded with:

"Ted,

I look at the surface currents just to see what is going on and what direction things could be going, but it doesn't influence my decision on how to get to a specific location. The combination of surface temperature and chlorophyll contact is the determining factors in my decision. You can not have tuna with SST only. A specific range of chlorophyll content is a must in conjunction with SST. Very seldom have we ever caught tuna with a chlorophyll content greater than 1. The "Transition Zone" is defined as .2 chlorophyll content, where the tuna spend the majority of their time, which I'm sure you are aware. Albacore voraciously feed from .4 to .6 on the chlorophyll chart, seldom much higher, when in relation to 58 to 62 degree water. Ideally, SST/Chlorophyll on the same map would be perfect.

Thank you for your response,
Jerry Crofoot"

He responded along with Craig and added the "Tuna Oriented CHLA Plots". Now we have it all, and again thank you Ted and Craig!

Craig,

Welcome to Ifish!

The only other question I have is:

How difficult would it be to have the SST, chlorophyll and currents all on a single map?

Jerry
