Default SAFE areas

Anyone know how to fish them?
Is there a ramp at Youngs Bay or Blind Slough?

Youngs Bay has a two boat launches. One is at the yacht club located almost right under the old youngs bay bridge on the Astoria side. Last I knew, the dock there was in pretty bad shape. There is another one at the Tide Point store/cafe a little farther up on highway 202 (1820 SE Front St). It is private but you could check with them whether they allow public use ((503) 325-1981).

Yah, the locals use about 300-500' of 8" mesh mono gill net attached to a bow picker.

Seems to work pretty well.

Stop by Englunds, they will dial you in on gear.

Actually, they CAN get you dialed in there. Everything you need for sport fishing and the information on where to go and how to get there. Lots of boat toys too.

I've fished that alot, Bill. Call guide Dennis Stewart if you want him to take you and show you the ropes.

Here are some Youngs Bay fish that Dennnis got us into.

Cute, Bruce...so, did you see where the nets have been shut down in both areas this week? Rec stayed open?

Thanks Ruth...I love Englund's...wish it were closer.

Bill ,I would launch in Warrenton and travel under the bridge and through the channels. Fish the channel areas. No fish there though.

There is also a launch up the Youngs river not far out of town and trolling opportunities are just minutes away.

There is one private launch on Blind slough just above the Blind slough bridge (next to the netpens). It's a 4x4 launch and I haven't used it for anything other then my 14' aluminum. Next closest launch would be Aldrich Point. Little further run, but a better launch for larger crafts.

Focus on the mouth of Big Creek for springers. #4-#5 spinners seem to be the ticket. It is getting a little late in the year and most fish have probally already began to worm their way into the feeder streams of Blind/Knappa Slough.

Noticed in the steelhead closure thread that commercial fisheries were effected in the SAFE areas. Don't know if this is also impacting sport? Might need to look further into it.

Good luck!

Bill PM me also if you need more information. Just wondering who's the horse as the local OSP office says that Youngs Bay is closed to both Sport and Commercial at this time.

Val

I was just down at the local POS and they had a memo come out today that stated commercials closed, sports stays open. I also had a report that the commercials were not doing much in Youngs Bay.

I think it's just you. Bill asked an honest question and got a smart ass reply.
All of us on the lower river are gillnetters just like everyone from the valley is a pot smoking, liberal tree hugging, vegan,PETA supporter.

Hey; lighten up Francis? I could care less really, and don't take yourself so seriuosly! I just thought it was a funny post, maybe you need to have a laugh once in awhile too? Not into judging anyone, you can gillnet all the fish you want there and it really wouldn't bother me a bit: have fun out there.
